2013: Creation of department of cyber defense

The government of Estonia approved in December, 2013 the resolution according to which at the Ministry of Defence the new structural unit — department of policy of cyber defense is created, the press service of the Defense Ministry reported[1].

The new department will include employees who are engaged in cyber security as a part of other departments now. Gain of cyber security of the managerial sphere of the ministry will be a task of new department. The department will also be given a problem of coordination of the international military operations.

As declare the Estonian authorities in recent years, Tallinn became one of the leading world centers in the field of cyber security. Representatives of Estonia constantly participate in different international conferences on this subject. The Estonian military are involved in NATO exercises on cyber security.

So, in November, 2013 there took place three-day NATO exercises of Cyber Coalition which purpose was a check of capability of the countries of NATO and the partner states of alliance to resist to cyber attacks. Exercises took place in the Baltic college of defense of the Estonian city of Tartu and a number of the European countries.

2008: Accreditation of the center of cyber defense of NATO in Tallinn

North Atlantic council of NATO in 2008 approved accreditation of the Center of cyber defense of NATO in Tallinn and gave it the status of the international military organization. For the end of 2013 ten countries participate in work of the center: Germany, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Estonia and USA.
