2017: Expansion of technical capabilities of the aggregating platform for creation of virtual power plant

The British power company of Moixa which is specializing in innovations in the field of power and being the only thing in the country the producer of rechargeable batteries received in the fall of 2017 public financing for expansion of technical capabilities of the aggregating GridShare platform for the purpose of a possibility of use of GridShare and for aggregation of the drives of energy used in a household and the electric transport and also developed by other manufacturing companies of heat-sink devices[1].

Financing of more than $350,000 is selected with Department (ministry) of business, power and industrial strategy (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s Energy Entrepreneurs Fund) Great Britain within the program (scheme) of support of development and demonstration of modern level of technologies, products and processes in spheres of energy efficiency, generation and also heat storage and the electric power.

The GridShare platform aggregates the numerous dispersed electric power drives, thereby creating virtual power plant which is capable to provide system services for national power supply system, a local distribution network and for the power companies providing power supply of the population. Use of GridShare will help to reduce losses of the electric power and will provide more active implementation of RES-generation and use of electric vehicles.

Providing Gridshare with technical capabilities on control of heat-sink devices of other producers, Moixa will be able to increase a range of the services offered by it and to provide to the power companies servicing the population the uniform center for aggregation of home heat-sink devices. It will also help with achievement of the purpose delivered by the company by 2020 to provide a possibility of formation of virtual power plant due to aggregation of the accumulative distributed devices for the purpose of maintenance of low-carbon power and increase in profitability of the intelligent electric network. The volume of the electric power, virtual power plant, deliverable at network, at the maximum load equals 200 MWh. Moixa set the object to install by 2020 electric power drives to 50 thousand British houses.

The company together with the Japanese corporation Hitachi works on implementation of the similar project worth over $14 million on islands Silli1. Within the project the aggregating platforms based on home heat-sink devices and electric vehicles, capable to participate in providing an energy balance of island power supply systems will be built. Project implementation will allow to cut down expenses of consumers on payment of the electric power and on 40% for 40% to increase a RES generation share in power supply of islands.
