Assets

The federal state budgetary institution "Moscow Canal" is the largest water transport and water management complex and performs functions of state body on internal waterways in 12 territorial subjects of the Russian Federation of the Central region of Russia.

Objects of the enterprise: more than 240 hydraulic engineering constructions and 3842 km of waterways.

History

The Moscow Canal is constructed according to the resolution SNK USSR of June 1, 1932 No. 859 "About construction of Moscow-Volga channel" for the purpose of ensuring navigation between the rivers Moscow and Volga, water supply of Moscow and sanitary watering of the rivers of Moscow and its inflows.

On July 15, 1937 the Moscow-Volga channel afterwards renamed in honor of the 800 anniversary of the capital into the Moscow Canal was accepted in operation. Construction of the channel lasted 4 years and 8 months and contributed to the development of water supply of Moscow, solved a problem of watering of the Moskva River with the sanitary and hygienic purposes and provided the shortest communication of Moscow with Volga by the innovative trunk waterway.

Annually Federal State Budgetary Institution Moscow Canal pumps over more than 1.5 billion cubic meters of water from which 700 million cubes of water go for water supply of the population and the enterprises, providing more than 60% of all water consumption of the city of Moscow; more than 500 million cubes – on sanitary watering of the rivers Moscow and Yauza; about 150 million cubes are used for the purposes of navigation.
