2025: Plants shut down due to cyber attack
National Presto Industries, a Presto-branded appliance company, was hit by a cyber attack that forced factories to stop. The notification of the hacker invasion of National Presto Industries (owns the Presto brand) in early March 2025 was sent to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
It is reported that the attack began on March 1, 2025. The incident affected various Presto operations, including product delivery, some manufacturing processes and various back office functions. The company has taken temporary measures to maintain critical processes, and information security specialists are engaged in the restoration of affected IT systems.
National Presto Industries operates three separate business areas: the production of household appliances (pressure cookers, waffles, fryers, etc.), a number of subsidiaries operating under contracts with the US Army, as well as a security division that produces carbon monoxide detectors, fire detectors and fire extinguishers. The notice sent to the SEC did not specify whether military contractors were affected by the cyber attack.
Law enforcement agencies have been notified of the hacker invasion: a cyber incident response team consisting of internal and external information security experts has been involved. Relevant federal and state regulators and agencies have also been informed of the breach. National Presto Industries warned the incident "could have a material impact on the financial position and results of operations." As of March 7, 2025, no cybercriminal group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Whether personal or confidential data was stolen is not specified.[1]
