2023: Building a Company
On June 18, 2023, Japanese industrial giant Nidec announced the creation of a joint venture with Embraer (JV) called Nidec Aerospace, which will produce electric motors for aircraft.
It is clarified that the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer and Nidec agreed to create a joint venture to develop a portfolio of products for the aerospace industry that are independent of vehicles, starting with electric motors for eVTOL aircraft.
Eve Air Mobility, Embraer's subsidiary developing the four-seat eVTOL air taxi, will be Nidec Aerospace's first customer. During the briefing, representatives of Embraer and Nidec showed a large-scale layout of the 70-kilowatt engine that will propel the Eve eVTOL aircraft.
Nidec is set to invest at least $141 million in the joint venture through 2028 and will hold a 51% majority stake in Nidec Aerospace. The location of the joint venture will be in the United States in Missouri due to the fact that Eve Air Mobility, whose vehicles will be allowed to carry passengers by air to San Francisco from 2026. The Japanese company Nidec will also open production of traction electric motors in Mexico.
As of June 2023, Nidec has extensive experience in the production of engines for electric vehicles, home appliances, industrial equipment and power generators, and the company is now making the first big leap into the aerospace industry through its partnership with Embraer.
We combine two very strong and powerful engineering companies to develop electric motors with high quality, very competitive prices and scale to meet the needs of the entire industry! We continue to make significant progress and look forward to launching a collaboration to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable air travel, "said Embraer Senior Vice President of Innovation and Corporate Strategy Dimas Tomelin. |
On June 18, 2023, at an exhibition at the Paris Air Show, Eve Air Mobility announced two additional suppliers for its eVTOL.
