2020: Revocation of license
On December 11, 2020 the Central Bank of the Russian Federation announced revocation of license of the Petrozavodsk bank "Onego" which on the value of assets took the 308th place in a banking system of Russia.
The regulator made this decision as it is reported on its website, in according to Subparagraphs 6 and 6.1 of Part 1 of Article 20 of the Federal law "About Banks and Banking Activity", being guided by the fact that the Onego Bank "broke the federal laws regulating banking activity and also regulations of the Bank of Russia in this connection the regulator within the last 12 months repeatedly applied to it measures including restrictions for implementation of separate banking activities were introduced; allowed violations of requirements of the legislation in the field of counteraction of legalization (washing) of income gained in the criminal way and to terrorism financing".
According to the Central Bank, activity of Onego was substantially focused on carrying out opaque operations on money transfer for benefit of illegal online casinos, bookmaker offices and totalizators. Besides, the credit institution was involved in carrying out doubtful operations of clients on funds withdrawal abroad.
In Onego bank the temporary administration of the Central Bank which will work until appointment of the receiver or the liquidator is appointed. Powers of executive bodies of credit institution according to federal laws are suspended.
The Onego bank is a participant of deposit insurance system therefore deposit amounts will be returned to investors in the amount of 100% of balance, but no more than 1.4 million rubles in total on one investor (taking into account the accrued deposit interests), except as specified, determined by Chapter 2.1 of the Federal Russian Federation law "About Deposit Insurance in Banks". Payment of deposits is made state by corporation "Deposit Insurance Agency".[1]
