2024: Data breach

On May 27, 2024, it became known that cybercriminals managed to penetrate the IT infrastructure of the largest Russian online store of glasses and contact lenses - the site Ochkov.net. As a result, the personal information of the service customers was leaked.

The hack was reported by the automated monitoring service DLBI (Data Leakage & Breach Intelligence). It is said that the stolen database contains the full names of the customers of the named store, almost 700 thousand unique email addresses, about 150 thousand telephone numbers, delivery addresses, hashed passwords, IP addresses and the cost of orders. The information is said to be relevant, with some records dating back to 23 May 2024.

The Ochkov.net service, as of the end of May 2024, does not comment on the situation in any way. It is not clear whether the attackers tried to demand a ransom for the stolen information. The company's website says that it has almost 200 thousand regular buyers. Thus, personal information about many of them could be in the hands of attackers. Stolen information can be used to organize personalized phishing attacks or other fraudulent schemes aimed at stealing money. Using the names of the site's customers, information about their orders and phone numbers, attackers can put victims to sleep. And this significantly increases the chances of success of the criminal campaign.

It is noted that Ochkov.net is one of the leading online stores in Russia for contact lenses, tools for caring for them and accessories. The company has been operating since 2003. Customers are offered contact optics of any type from all well-known brands. Every day, service operators issue more than 1000 orders.[1]
