2023: Vladimir Lisin sold the Okskaya shipyard
In December 2023, the Volga Shipping Company (Volga Fleet), controlled by Vladimir Lisin's Fletcher Group, announced the closure of the sale of the Okskaya shipyard.
In accordance with the direction of development adopted by Volga-Fleet JSC, the company focused on the transportation of goods by the sea and river dry cargo fleet, abandoning related directions. In this regard, in 2022, an agreement was concluded on the sale of a stake in Oka Shipyard JSC owned by Volga-Fleet JSC, the calculations for which were completed this year, Volga-Fleet said in a statement. |
The buyer and the amount of the transaction are not officially disclosed. Three sources in the industry told Kommersant that Alexander Ivanov, the former chairman of the board of directors and shareholder of Sovfracht, became the buyer of the Okskaya shipyard. The latter did not provide comment at the request of the publication.
Development Director of the PortNews media group Nadezhda Malysheva told Kommersant that the Okskaya shipyard is one of the best small private shipyards, and the quality of the asset does not require large additional investments. She recalled that the company was provided with orders for two years in advance, since the river-sea vessels are in great demand and it will only grow.
According to Malysheva, there are many reasons why Lisin could sell the shipyard, but managing such a shipyard requires great personal involvement, while business profitability is not too high. She pointed out that the buyer the market is talking about "is not very well known as an independent businessman in the shipping industry, but often acted as a partner in various shipping businesses." In order for the shipyard not to lose its position, competent management by the new owner is necessary, she added.[1]
