History
2021: 3D Systems bought Oqton for $180 million
In early September 2021, 3D Systems announced an agreement to acquire Oqton. The value of the transaction is $180 million. 3D Systems, operating in Russia, will pay for the purchase with cash and its own shares.
It is expected that by 2025 the income from the sale of software will exceed $100 million. The deal followed the sale by 3D Systems of its Simbionix, On Demand Manufacturing and Cimatron divisions, as well as the acquisition of Allevi and Additive Works. Closing of the Oqton deal is expected in Q4 2021.
Oqton's MOS platform was designed to automate scalable digital manufacturing processes based on industrial IoT tools, AI and machine learning. Although acquired by 3D Systems, the company will continue to operate as an independent entity, using third-party verification to ensure data privacy and security protocols for its customers.
Customers from our industry and healthcare segments are accelerating the introduction of additive manufacturing into the production environment. They are increasingly noting the need for a production software platform that can easily and reasonably include not only the printers themselves, but also all digital manufacturing systems and key enterprise software to optimize the entire workflow, from raw materials to finished and proven components. Oqton MOS meets this market need by easily using information and enterprise data in the current customer's ERP, MES, PLM and CRM systems, as well as the full range of production operations and software in the workshop, "commented 3D Systems President and CEO Jeffrey Graves. |
3D Systems will aim to expand the availability of its 3DXpert, 3D Sprint, Geomagic software solutions to the entire additive manufacturing industry as additional options to the Oqton MOS platform. The Additive Works Amphyon platform will also be available to Oqton MOS users.
Combining the experience and solutions of both companies, 3D Systems and Oqton are confident that they will further accelerate the use of additive production as a production tool.
As Oqton co-founder and CEO Ben Schrauven added, Oqton is pleased to be teaming up with 3D Systems and hopes to leverage their knowledge, resources and capabilities to continue to innovate and deliver solutions that will help companies accelerate the implementation of additive manufacturing in the production environment.[1]
