2020: Stratasys purchased Origin for $100 million

In the middle of December, 2020 Stratasys announced purchase of a startup on 3D - Origin printing, the transaction is estimated at $100 million. Due to use of the platform of the photopolymeric Origin printer and an ecosystem of materials of a startup of Stratasys she intends to continue development in a segment of mass production of parts where 3D - printing is used for important production applications.

Stratasys said that the technology of programmable photopolymerization (P3) patented by Origin will become the key engine of growth of the company, having increased annual income to $200 million within five years. Acquisition will also strengthen Stratasys positions in the field of production of polymers and 3D - printings which are widely used in such industries as stomatology, medicine and production of tools.

We consider that the program-controlled Origin One system is the best in the industry, combining high capacity with improbable accuracy, - the CEO of Stratasys Yoav Zeyf told.

Stratasys also considers that partnership with Origin will allow to achieve success in mastering of technology of selective laser melting. Acquisition of Origin reflects one more step of the company in achievement of a main goal - to become the leader in production of polymeric additives, offering complex, best technologies in the segment and solutions for creation of a chain of added value for additive productions.

The long-term strategy of Stratasys is focused on production of polymers as the company aims to offer the polymeric systems, materials, the software and services to compensate recession in the industrial sector during COVID-19 pandemic.

Stratasys carried out internal market research which results showed that by 2025 the volume of production applications in the industry 3D - printings will grow to $25 billion, at the same time additive manufacturing on the basis of polymers will be a considerable part of all market.[1]
