2023: Data from millions of customers made publicly available

In mid-September 2023, the cybercriminal group Solntsepek announced the hacking of the Ukrainian bank Oschadbank. The personal data of millions of clients of this financial organization are posted in open access on the Internet.

It is said that the hackers had an extensive set of information at their disposal. This is the name, telephone number, address of residence, place of work, date of birth, gender, passport data (including series/number, by whom and when issued), VIP client sign, code and address of the bank branch. In total, at least 4,603,625 lines from the stolen database have been posted publicly. According to other sources, over 5 million records were stolen.

Solntsepek reported on the hacking of the Ukrainian bank Oschadbank

Earlier, participants in the Solntsepek cyber group leaked data from some Ukrainian Internet providers, as well as Obolon and Southern Mining and Processing Plant companies. Stolen information can be used to organize personalized phishing attacks and other fraudulent schemes.

It is also reported that cybercriminals attacked the information infrastructure of the Ukrainian bank Akordbank. Hackers posted on the Internet not only the personal data of customers of these financial organizations, but also internal technical documentation. Law enforcement agencies are investigating the incidents.

Today, we, the Solntsepek hackers, attacked the Ukrainian banks Oschad and Akord, through which funds are collected for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In confirmation, we post databases of Oschad users (individuals, corporate clients, FOPs - more than 5 million records with personal data of Ukrainians), as well as internal technical documentation of banks, the cyber group said in a statement.

In addition, the hacker group Solntsepek reported an attack on the information resources of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine. As a result of this invasion, the mobilization program was disrupted.[1]

2021: Paris court overturns decision to compensate $1 billion to bank for property in Crimea

In March 2021, the court Paris overturned the decision of the international arbitration to award Oschadbank compensation for $1 billion, the Ministry of Justice said.

In November 2018, an international arbitration based in Paris awarded Oschadbank compensation in the amount of more than $1.1 billion, believing that the bank's property in Crimea was "expropriated as a result of Crimea becoming part of Russia."

2020: The Supreme Court of Ukraine approved Oschadbank as the owner of the Sberbank brand in the country

On November 27, 2020, Ukrainian Oschadbank won a court with Sberbank for the trademark of a Russian credit institution. The trial lasted four years.

The Supreme Court found no grounds to satisfy the cassation appeal of Sberbank of Russia PJSC and left an order of the Northern Court of Appeal of 10.08.2020, which was denied the claim. The decree is final and not subject to appeal, the court said in a statement posted on the official Facebook page.

Ukrainian Oschadbank won a court with Sberbank for the trademark of a Russian credit institution

Oschadbank (the name from Ukrainian translates as Sberbank) accused Sberbank of violating intellectual property rights in connection with the renaming of the "Subsidiary Bank of Sberbank of Russia" in Ukraine to Sberbank.

Sberbank responded by agreeing to rename its "daughter" with the National Bank of Ukraine, and registration of the new name took place in accordance with the legislation of the country.

However, the Economic Court of Kyiv banned the Russian Sberbank from using the Sberbank trademark in Ukraine and deprived the Russian bank of its domain name sberbank.ua. Sberbank filed an appeal, and then a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court of Ukraine. As a result, the Sberbank trademark in Ukraine was awarded to Oschadbank. The decision of the Supreme Court of Ukraine is final and cannot be appealed.

Sberbank called the decision of the Supreme Court "technical," explaining that it considered the credit institution's complaint against judicial acts on the dispute, in which the validity of Oschadbank's certificate for the Sberbank sign in Ukraine was challenged.

In this case, the Supreme Court of Ukraine only confirmed the judicial act of the lower court to refuse to satisfy the claim. At the same time, the dispute over Oschadbank's lawsuit against Sberbank and its subsidiary bank on the recognition of certificates for signs for goods and services is still under consideration, the bank's press service told Vedomosti.[2][3]
