Start of port construction

On December 19, 2023, it became known about the results of a competition to choose a general contractor for the construction of a marine terminal in the port of Pevek on Cape Nagleynin in Chukotka. We are talking about a project worth 31.8 billion rubles.

According to Vedomosti, citing materials on the public procurement website, the Mezhregionstroy company will build a terminal in the port of Pevek, which turned out to be the only participant in the tender. Of the total amount of the contract, 20.1 billion rubles will be allocated for the construction of a cargo terminal, 11.7 billion rubles - for the creation of infrastructure for mobile floating nuclear power units (MPEB). 26.8 billion rubles will be allocated from the federal budget, another 5 billion rubles will be "extra-budgetary funds," the newspaper points out, referring to documents for public procurement.

According to the procurement materials, the creation of a cargo terminal involves shore protection of the slope type, the construction of an approach dam, an open warehouse dam and berth No. 1 for receiving general cargo (with openings), dredging of the approach channel and the water area, the installation of navigation/sash/warning signs, and the development of a ship traffic control system.

The design scope of dredging of the cargo terminal water area is 914.4 thousand cubic meters. m. The design depth of the bottom will be 11.89 m. The total area of ​ ​ the dredged part of the water area of ​ ​ the cargo terminal along the lower edge of the slope is 39.80 hectares, along the upper edge of the slope - 41.92 hectares.

The planned dredging of the access channel is 1.4 million cubic meters. m. The design depth of the bottom will be 12.29 m. 175 m wide and 4.65 thousand m long.

The total period of work under the state contract is from the date of conclusion of the contract until January 23, 2026. The contract provides for the creation of a cargo terminal under the project of Lenmorniiproekt JSC and the creation of infrastructure for the placement of a modernized nuclear floating power unit (MPEB) under the project of Atomenergo JSC^[1]

Allocation of 27.5 billion rubles for expansion

In March 2023, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order to allocate more than 27.6 billion rubles for the construction of a new terminal in the port of Pevek in Chukotka. Thus, work continues in the Russian Federation on the development and arrangement of the Northern Sea Route (NSR), the most important transport corridor of national and world importance, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers noted.

At the expense of federal funding, Cape Nagleynin will deepen the water area with the construction of an approach channel for ships. At the same time, berths will be created for the shipment of products of the Baim Mining and Processing Plant (GOK). The terminal capacity will be about 2 million tons of cargo per year. Three quarters of this volume will come from copper concentrate from the Peschanka field, which is being developed by GOK enterprises. Commissioning of the terminal is scheduled for 2026.

In addition, federal funds will allow for the hydrotechnical work necessary to accommodate floating nuclear power units - they will supply electricity to those who mine copper in Peschanka. These works are also scheduled to be completed in 2026.

As Mikhail Mishustin noted at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on March 9, 2023, the integrated development of the port infrastructure of the Northern Sea Route is carried out within the framework of the President's instructions.

The head of state emphasized the need to make sure that ships are serviced and cargo processed in each port along the route, the Prime Minister recalled.

It is assumed that the emergence of a new marine terminal in the port of Pevek will contribute to the implementation of the country's socio-economic development initiative "Year-round Northern Sea Route" - an increase in the total volume of cargo transportation through the NSR to 150 million tons by 2030.
