The climate is temperate continental. Autumn is protracted, December even by the regional meteorological service is already officially called the "pre-winter," and not the first winter month. In winter, frosts usually begin in the second decade of January. It often warms up in February. In March, and sometimes in April, there are spring frosts. There are few successful southern slopes, the soil is fatter, richer, closer to the chernozems. A distinctive feature of the local soils is mud volcanoes, which are pseudo-volcanoes from a geological point of view. The landscape is flat-hilly, with mud volcanism, with forging-turf-cereal steppes and xerophilic trees and shrubs on leached chernozems, chestnut, solonetzic soils developed on loose carbonate clays and loams. The predominant soils on the peninsula are chernozems, transitional to chestnut (more than 41 thousand hectares). The massifs are flat, extensive, with a weakly pronounced microrelief, most often have a small northern or southern slope. For the predominant majority of chernozems, the soil-forming rocks are loess. Soil erosion is weak and medium water and wind. Groundwater is fresh and shallow. The average annual sum of temperatures above + 10 ° C required for grape growing is 3600 °. The number of days with an air temperature above + 10 ° С is on average 208. Almost 60% of the peninsula is occupied by floodplains and estuaries. Therefore, here the average relative humidity is 2 times higher than in the steppe regions (in spring - 74-81%, in summer - 71-74%, in autumn - 72-85%, in winter - 81-87%). The abundance of night and morning dew belongs to the peculiar features of the peninsula.
