2016: Netgear buys Placemeter
In December, 2016 it became known that Netgear purchases the Placemeter company which is engaged in development of technologies of computer vision. With the help these technologies of Netgear intends to expand functionality of the cameras of observations of a line of Arlo.
This line is intended for house security systems. Using developments of Placemeter the home cameras Netgear Arlo will be able "to distinguish" among themselves motionless and moving objects and also to define what moves in a frame — the person, the bicycle, the motorcycle, the car or something larger.
The advanced systems of recognition of the movement are rather recent trend in the market of home surveillance cameras, however some brands already integrated technologies, similar to that that develops Placemeter, in the products. In particular, cameras of Nest company successfully distinguish people from other objects (provided that the owner of the camera subscribed on a cloud service of Nest Aware: apparently, the technology uses cloud computing for ensuring enhanced accuracy).
The cameras Netatmo Presence are in most cases capable to distinguish the person from other moving objects, and Netatmo Welcome and ArcSoft Simplicam devices offer also sensing technologies of persons, however, not leaving an impression of 100% of efficiency. When Netgear begins to release cameras with functions of recognition of people, so far it is unknown.[1]
