2026: Nationalization

On March 11, 2026, the Sovetsky District Court of Novosibirsk recovered almost 9.4 billion rubles from Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Mikhail Predtechensky and three companies related to the production of nanotubes. The decision was made at the suit of the prosecutor's office of the Novosibirsk region.

The case file says that Predtechensky, being an employee of the Institute of Thermophysics of the SB RAS, appropriated the institute's technology for the synthesis of single-wall carbon nanotubes, and created and used a group of companies to extract and legalize illegal enrichment. The prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit in order to protect the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of an indefinite circle of persons of the Russian Federation in person. Ministries of Science and Higher Education Russia The defendants, in addition to the academician, RAS were Universal Additives LLC, Plasmocatalysis LLC and Long Life Technologies S.A.

According to the decision, 9.37 billion rubles of unjust enrichment were jointly recovered from the defendants. At the same time, Plasmokataliz LLC and Universal Additives LLC were withdrawn from the state. The state duty in the amount of 900 thousand rubles was also collected from the defendants. The court's decision is addressed to immediate enforcement.

Predtechensky is the founder of the company - the manufacturer of graphene nanotubes OCSiAl, which previously owned Universal Additives LLC and Plasmokataliz LLC. OCSiAl is the world's largest producer of single-wall carbon nanotubes. They are used to improve the characteristics of plastics, rubbers, composite materials, paints and coatings, as well as in lithium-ion batteries. OCSiAl and Predtechensky, as reported by the Kommersant newspaper, appeared in the case at the suit of the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation against the Luxembourg company MCD Technoligoes S.A.R.L. (owned by OCSiAl) about patents for inventions related to methods for producing carbon nanotubes and carbon nanomaterial.[1]
