2016: Sale of Premier Farnell for $1.1 billion
In June, 2016 it became known of Premier Farnell sale to the Swiss supplier of the industrial Daetwyler Holding components more than for $1 billion.
Premier Farnell founded in 1934 specializes in sale of electronics. The company possesses the license for development and sale of the miniature Raspberry Pi computer which cost is only $5. The company works in the countries of Europe, North America and the Pacific Rim.
Daetwyler announced intention to pay 165 pence counting on one stock Premier Farnell that approximately half there is more market value of securities to closing of the exchange on June 13, 2016. The statement for sale of Premier Farnell provoked growth of quotations of the company by 50%.
Owners of Premier Farnell will receive about 615 million pounds sterling (about $873 million) from Daetwyler. Taking into account debts of the British company the cost of its sale will be 792 million pounds sterling ($1.12 billion). The transaction is going to be closed at the end of 2016.
Daetwyler says that merge to Premier Farnell will increase annual revenues of the company to 2.5 billion Swiss francs (about $2.6 billion).
Against the background of decline in demand for Premier Farnell computers fell into a difficult financial position that forced the company to reduce dividends and to sell a number of assets. From September, 2015 to June of the 2016th shares of the manufacture fell in price by 10%. Total sales of the Raspberry Pi computer made about 8 million units by June, 2016.[1]
2015: Revenue of $1.1 billion
At the end of 2015 revenue of Premier Farnell made 778.5 million pounds sterling ($1.1 billion) from which about 16% were the share of revenues of the division which is responsible for Raspberry Pi distribution. By February, 2015 world sales of this single board computer Raspberry Pi reached 5 million pieces.
