2025: Marble Mining Restarts
In Karelia, after 20 years, marble mining is resumed. The project is being implemented at the Kovadyarvi field in the Pryazhinsky district, 7 km from the village of Kolatselga. The work is being carried out by the Prionezhskaya Mining Company, which decided to resume production due to the growing demand for natural stone in the construction industry. The reserves of the field are estimated to be significant, and the quality of the marble meets high standards. The start of the project became known in March 2025.
The new production plans to mine marble in eight different colors, including decorative landscape varieties. The field is represented by two monoclinally lying marble layers, similar in characteristics to the field in Ruskealsky Canyon.
The project provides for investments of more than ₽545 million and the creation of more than 100 jobs. The planned production volume is 10-15 thousand square meters. m of cut marble per month, which will ensure stable supply of material to the market. The launch of mining is scheduled for April 2025, which will be a key stage in the implementation of the project.
The head of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov emphasized the importance of the project for the region. The government of the republic will support the enterprise in bringing the necessary power and gas supply capacities.
Semyon Sychev, General Director of the Prionezhskaya Mining Company, announced plans to create the largest stone-processing factory in Karelia. The company acquired the territory of the former logging equipment service center in Pitkärant for the implementation of the project.
Artur Parfenchikov noted the uniqueness of the project, pointing out the possibility of using part of the materials for the restoration of objects previously built from Ruskeal marble. It is planned to build a stone processing plant with an area of 2 thousand square meters. m with modern equipment.[1]
