2025: Pilot Project for the Cultivation and Processing of Abyssinian Crambe - Oilseed Technical Crop

The group of companies "Progress Agro" continues to develop the direction of research and implementation of niche agricultural cultures. One of the promising projects was the pilot for the cultivation and processing of Abyssinian crumb - an oil technical crop containing a high concentration of erucic acid. This is a valuable raw material for the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. The Group of Companies announced this on June 11, 2025.

Experimental crops were laid last season at two sites - 5 hectares each in the Krasnodar Territory and the Tambov Region. The results varied by region: in the southern zone, the yield was lower than expected due to weather conditions, while at the central site in the Tambov region, crumb showed high agricultural production indicators. As part of processing from pilot areas, it was possible to obtain 525 liters of crumben oil. Part of the product was sent to potential industrial partners in India for testing. The main interest of foreign counterparties is related to the use of oil in the chemical industry.

In the Russian market, the cosmetic segment will become a key vector. The product has passed laboratory tests and certification, obtaining safety opinions and declarations of conformity for work in this industry.

We see crambe as a promising high value-added destination. Oil based on it is in demand in industrial processing, and we have already received confirmed interest from Asian markets. Our task is to complete the pilot, assess the economic component and, with positive results, build a full-fledged chain: from raw materials to processing, - commented Nikita Ermichev, director of strategic development at Progress Agro Group.

The initiative to develop niche crops is part of the Agro Progress strategy to diversify crops, increase the share of products with deep processing and import substitution in the segment of technical oils.

2024: Construction of the plant for 600 million rubles

In the capital of Adygea, the construction of a plant for the production of polymer products of the Progress Agro group of companies has been completed. This project worth more than ₽600 million was announced on November 27, 2024. The launch of production will significantly reduce the region's dependence on imported polymer products and provide local manufacturers with high-quality packaging materials of domestic production.

The plant will begin operation before the end of 2024, and will reach full production capacity in 2025. The company will produce bags for packing sugar and flour, car inserts, big bags, various types of film and multifilament thread.

General Director of Progress Agro Group Anton Ulanov said that the goal of the project is to replace imported products and strengthen the position of domestic producers, as well as improve working conditions for employees.

The company will become the second in the division of polymer products of the group after the plant in Ust-Labinsk, Krasnodar Territory, launched in 2021 with a capacity of 10 million bags per year. The new production will quadruple the total output.

500 jobs will be created at the plant. The products are intended for the construction industry, agriculture and the freight sector.

Since April 2020, Progress Agro has been included in the list of backbone enterprises in the agro-industrial complex of Russia. The group brings together enterprises in the field of crop production, animal husbandry and agricultural culture breeding.

The company's revenue in 2023 exceeded ₽19 billion. The management is a land bank with an area of ​ ​ 134 thousand hectares and a park of 3 thousand pieces of equipment.

The opening of a new plant contributed to the growth of industrial production in Adygea - the index in January-May 2024 amounted to 111.7% compared to the same period in 2023.^[1]
