2021: Imposition of US sanctions
the Chinese quantum computers On November 24, 2021, the US government imposed sanctions on a number of companies, including manufacturers, citing national security and foreign policy considerations. The states sanctions list included:
- Corad Technology;
- Hangzhou Zhongke Microelectronics;
- Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at Microscale;
- Hunan Goke Microelectronics;
- New H3C Semiconductor Technologies;
- Peaktek;
- Poly Asia Pacific;
- QuantumCTek;
- Shaanxi Zhi En Electromechanical Technology;
- Shanghai QuantumCTek;
- Xi’an Aerospace Huaxun Technology;
- Yunchip Microelectronics.
Eight technology companies based in China were added to the list for their alleged role in assisting the Chinese military in their efforts to quantum computing and purchase or attempt to purchase goods of American origin as part of PRC military programs. American officials have long complained that Chinese companies report to the People's Republic of China and collect classified information on behalf of the People's Liberation Army. The Communist Party China in early November 2021 announced that it was not engaged in industrial espionage.
Global trade and commerce must maintain peace, prosperity, and well-paid jobs, not carry unmanageable risks to U.S. national security. The country's Department of Commerce seeks to effectively use export controls to protect our national security, "said US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo in a statement. |
The US Department of Commerce also included 16 legal entities and individuals working in China and Pakistan for their work on the nuclear and ballistic missile program. According to the US Department of Commerce, these companies are involved in the creation of supercomputers that are used by the Chinese Ministry of Defense to develop weapons, especially their advanced models, nuclear weapons, cyber weapons, missiles and even hypersonic weapons. In total, the Joe Biden administration included 27 legal entities and individuals located in China, Pakistan, Russia, Japan and Singapore. The imposed sanctions imply a ban on the sale of American goods and technologies mentioned in the list to Chinese companies.[1]
