2020: Trump selected $1 billion for 7 AI institutes and 5 centers of quantum computings
At the end of August, 2020 Trump selected $1 billion for creation of seven research institutes of artificial intelligence and five the research centers of quantum computings within five years. Under management of National scientific fund and Ministry of Energy 12 the cross-disciplinary centers will investigate new technologies and to train future employees.
According to the director Sethuraman Panchanathan, The national scientific fund will select more than $100 million for creation institutes of AI that represents "the largest one-time investment of the government into development of AI today". In July it was announced creation of three institutes Quantum Leap Challenge, and institutes of AI will add "a national innovation ecosystem".
Institutes will investigate machine learning, processing of natural language, computer vision, interaction of the person and AI and also justice and transparency of technologies. All these researches will be contribute to the further development of physics, medicine and education. Allocated funds will go also for training of students and graduate students.
In turn the Ministry of Energy selected $625 million for development the research centers of quantum computings also received $340 million more. During tender were five groups of 69 organizations which provided plans on are selected to promotion of quantum computings.
Work in the centers will include both scientific research, and development of prototypes, - the deputy minister of science of the U.S. Department of Energy Paul Dabbar reported. |
National laboratories will direct the research centers Argonne, Brukheyven, Fermi, Oak Ridge and Lawrence Berkeley. For example, Fermi integrates the knowledge in the field of elementary particle physics with Ames Lab materials science, and Oak Ridge will head the Center of quantum science, having used the help of national laboratories of Fermi, Los Alamos and Pacific North-West Laboratory.[1]
