2024: The first recorded communication of people in a dream took place
On October 11, 2024, it became known that a startup from California REMspace, developing technologies to improve sleep and conscious dreams, for the first time in history allowed two sleeping people to exchange a message. The results of the work are said to be a major milestone in sleep research. In the future, the technology could find applications in a variety of fields, including psychiatry and training in certain skills.
REMspace used "specially designed equipment" to allow two people to successfully share simple information during mindful dreams. In particular, a server, a certain "device," Wi-Fi wireless technology and sensors were involved. REMspace does not go into details about the hardware platform as of October 2024.
Conscious dreams are a phenomenon of the REM sleep phase, which is essentially an altered state of consciousness. In this case, a person is aware that he sees sleep, and can manage its content to one degree or another. This is a kind of borderline state between the REM sleep phase and wakefulness. The two study participants slept in separate homes, and their brain waves were remotely monitored by a system that transmitted data to a server. As soon as the computer recorded that one of the participants had entered a conscious dream, he generated a random word in a special language and transmitted it to the subject through headphones. The study participant then repeated the word in a dream, and the answer was registered and preserved. Eight minutes later, the second participant in the experiment entered a conscious dream. The server gave him a saved message from the first person, which he repeated when he woke up.
This achievement opens the door to countless commercial applications, changing our understanding of communication and interaction in the dream world, says REMspace CEO and founder Michael Raduga[1] |
