2025: TV Channel Launch

On December 5, 2025, the president Russia Vladimir Putin , together with the editor-in-chief of the media group "" and Russia today the TV channel Russia Today Margarita Simonyan, announced the launch of broadcasting of the RT channel in (India Russia Today India). This was the end of the Russian-Indian negotiations.

During the ceremony, Vladimir Putin noted the significance of the event, stressing that the new RT India channel will provide millions of Indian citizens with the opportunity to receive more accurate and truthful information about modern Russia, its aspirations and lifestyle.

Putin also pointed out that RT broadcasting was limited in a number of countries, which, in his opinion, is explained by fear of the truth. In his opinion, many Western media only reflect the official point of view of their governments.

Russia Today is the source of information that "is as clean as possible, as aimed at serving the interests of its viewers, its listeners," the president added.

He noted the high efficiency of the channel and wished him success in the Indian media market. Margarita Simonyan in response expressed gratitude for the support.

RT India will broadcast daily news programmes in English. According to the editors, the key focus of the program grid will be the coverage of the role and interaction of India and Russia in international politics.

According to RIA Novosti, in 2025, Russia Today ranked second in India in terms of accessibility for pay-TV viewers in the category of English-language news channels, ahead of such major players as CNN-News18, India Today and NDTV. RT's audience in this country has already reached 675 million people.[1]
