2025: The hospital will pay 1.2 million rubles for the death of a child in an accident due to the fault of an insane patient

As it became known in early December 2025, by an absentee decision of the Industrial District Court of Perm, compensation for moral damage in the amount of 1.2 million rubles was collected from the Tchaikovsky branch of the GBUZ PK "Regional Clinical Psychiatric Hospital" in favor of the mother of a minor who died in an accident. The medical institution acts as the legal representative of the deranged patient driving the vehicle.

According to the press service of the court, as a result of a traffic accident that occurred in the spring of 2022, a 16-year-old resident of Perm was injured. She died from her injuries in intensive care.

The car that hit the victim at the regulated pedestrian crossing was previously stolen. The 47-year-old driver, who was driving while intoxicated, was declared insane and incapacitated by the court.

The criminal case against him under Articles 166 part 1 and 264 part 4 of paragraph "a" of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was terminated in connection with the appointment of compulsory treatment to the causative party in a specialized type of medical organization providing psychiatric care in inpatient conditions.

In the framework of civil proceedings, the court found that the cause of the incident was the improper performance of duties to ensure the safety of the vehicle by its owner. He left the car unlocked with a key left in the ignition.

This violation created the conditions for illegal seizure of a car by a third party and the subsequent commission of an accident. Compensation in favor of the victim in the amount of 300 thousand rubles was also collected from the owner of the car.

According to the press service of the court, the absentee decision did not enter into force (as of December 1, 2025).^[1]
