2019: Huawei left SD Association

On May 23, 2019 it became known of an exception of Huawei of the SD Association organization therefore the company lost the right to release computers and mobile devices with connectors for the memory cards SD or microSD.

After the USA inflicted sanctions on Huawei, several large companies refused cooperation with the Chinese producer. Some of them refrain from public statements — so happened also to SD Association which sets standards of memory cards. That Huawei left association, the updated list of her members demonstrates.

Smartphones with the memory cards SD prohibited to release Huawei

As far as the exception of Huawei of SD Association will painfully strike at business of the Chinese company, it is difficult to tell. Especially in the market of smartphones the failure trend from use of external compact drives was outlined. The Apple corporation from the very beginning does not install such slots in the phones, reasoning it with the fact that the connected flash cards lead to deceleration of operation of devices.

It is obvious that the built-in drives of high capacity are more expensive than microSD connectors therefore, having lost an opportunity to set the last, Huawei it is necessary to raise the prices of cheap smartphones or to resort to other formats of memory cards.

Perhaps, Huawei had a presentiment of such succession of events and therefore developed Nano Memory Card technology (NM Card). It definitely should increase production and to reduce the prices of the nanoSD cards to satisfy the future demand growth.

The NM Card card less by the sizes in comparison with microSD also has similar dimensions with the NanoSim card. The Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro models became the first smartphones supporting NM Card carriers. In them the hybrid slot which can work either with the Nano Memory card, or with NanoSim is set.^[1]
