History
2014
In 2014 there was a renaming of the university into "The St. Petersburg state institute of culture" in connection with the law "About Education in the Russian Federation"
1999-2014
From 1999 to 2014 St. Petersburg State University of culture and arts carried the name.
1993
In 1993 it is renamed into the St. Petersburg state academy of culture.
1991
In 1991, together with the city, the institute changed the name again — it became the St. Petersburg state institute of culture of N.K. Krupskaya.
1964
In 1964 replaced the name with the Leningrad state institute of culture of N.K. Krupskaya.
1942
In 1942 the institute was a part of Teacher training college of M.N. Pokrovsky. As independent educational institution the Leningrad state library institute of N.K. Krupskaya was recovered by the order of Council of People's Commissars of the USSR on June 15, 1945.
1941
In 1941, before the war, the institute was renamed again — into the Leningrad state library institute of N.K. Krupskaya.
1925
In 1925 the institute was reorganized into Communistic political and educational institute of N.K. Krupskaya.
1924
In 1924 the institute is renamed into Teacher training college of a politprosvetrabota and receives a name of N.K. Krupskaya.
1918
The university was founded on December 19, 1918 when in Petrograd the Petrograd institute of out-of-school education was open.
