History

1996: Creation of SUAL

In 1996 the company participated in creation of Siberian-Urals Aluminium Company (SUAL). Leonard Blavatnik was the board member of the company and owned 47.5 percent of shares of the company, and after its consolidation with Russian aluminum joined the board of Rusal.

2011: Conflict with Deripaska in Rusal

In December, 2011 media reported the conflict between Blavatnik and Victor Vekselberg's SUAL and the largest shareholder of Rusal, En company + Oleg Deripaska. The conclusion Rusal of the large contract with the trader of Glencore contrary to vetoed SUAL became one of his reasons (SUAL had the veto as the owner 15.8 percent of shares of Rusal).

In March, 2012 Vekselberg because of disagreements with management of the company resigned as the chairman and the board member of Rusal. In April of the same year SUAL submitted a claim to arbitration court of London with the requirement to cancel the transaction with Glencore and to compensate to SUAL the caused loss.
