In January, 2010 Progress Software, vendor of software of an interface layer, announced purchase of the Californian company Savvion, producer of the control software business processes (Business Process Management, BPM). Transaction amount — about $49 million. The range of the products Savvion covers vertical and horizontal business areas.

Acquisition followed the purchase of IBM of the Texas company Lombardi, the direct competitor of Savvion announced in the middle of the last December. Consolidation of the BPM sector directly answers desires of customers to receive completely integrated solutions along with complex service.

In a product portfolio of Savvion which is engaged in BPM solutions for 15 years there are means of planning of business processes, such as, for example, control of execution of orders or hiring of employees. The customers working in health care, power, financial service act as clients of the company. Allegedly, the solutions Savvion supplied with the system of BPM rules, analytics in real time and functionality of document management allow not only to carry out the orchestration of processes, but also to involve people in a production flow.

The absorbed technologies will be integrated with the middleware of Progress intended for processing of business events when tracking of system transactions in real time is conducted the set templates or interrelations are looked for, the necessary event handlers are put in action. Similar products are delivered by IBM, Tibco Software and other vendors.

According to the research IDC, market attractiveness of BPM solutions annually adds 15%: so, if in 2009 turnover of this segment made $1.7 billion, then to the 2013th it will grow to $3.0 billion.
