2023: Nationalization of the Bank
The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine in July 2023 announced the completion of the nationalization of Sense Bank from foreign shareholders controlled by a group of Russian businessmen, including Mikhail Fridman and Petr Aven.
2022: Ukrainian Alfa Bank changes name to Sens Bank
On July 11, 2022, it became known about the change of the name of the Ukrainian Alfa Bank to Sens Bank. The credit institution handed over the corresponding notification to the National Commission on Securities and the Stock Market of Ukraine.
This letter (excerpts from it are provided by the Ukrainian agency FinClub) says that the full name of the bank in Ukrainian will sound like "Joint Stock Company" Meaning Bank, "in English it will now be called Joint Stock Company Sense Bank. The institution's mobile application has been called Sense SuperApp for several years, FinClub notes.
In early March 2022, Russian Alfa Bank reported on its Telegram channel that the National Bank of Ukraine had deprived shareholders of control over Alfa Bank Ukraine. Then it was indicated that control was transferred to a special committee of four newly appointed independent directors - citizens of Ukraine.
Citizens of Russia filed applications for resignation from the board of directors. The report also noted that this does not affect the activities of the Russian Alfa Bank.
The National Bank of Ukraine classifies Alfa-Bank as systemically important companies. It stores 48 billion hryvnia of deposits of individuals (6% of all deposits in Ukrainian banks) and 24 billion hryvnia of enterprise funds. In total, the organization serves 2.6 million individuals, 55 thousand legal entities and 88 thousand individuals entrepreneurs (by July 2022).
Alfa-Bank Ukraine is not a subsidiary of the Russian Alfa Bank, and there is no share of Russian state-owned banks in its capital. In early June 2022, it became known that the Ukrainian Alfa Bank will change its brand and capitalize the business by $1 billion.
In mid-May 2022, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova announced the arrest of the assets of a Russian businessman, billionaire Mikhail Fridman, in the Ukrainian Alfa Bank, of which he is the founder.[1]
2021: Idea Bank purchase from Polish group Getin Holding
In February 2021, it was announced that Alfa-Bank was buying Idea Bank from the Polish group Getin Holding of billionaire Leszek Czarnecki. On September 21, 2020, the Polish Ministry of Justice filed a motion to arrest Leszek Czarniecki for creating the Getback financial pyramid through Ideabank. He faces 15 years in prison. More than 9,000 Poles bought the company's bonds but did not receive the invested funds back. The total damage from fraud is estimated at $675 million. The company's activities are considered one of the largest scams in Poland in recent years.
On February 4, 2021, the National Bank of Ukraine applied an impact measure to Idea Bank for serving customers from the sanctions lists.

PJSC Alfa-Bank (Ukraine) is a universal commercial bank that is part of the international consortium "Alfa-Group." In 2010, the bank held leading positions in all segments of the Ukrainian banking market. According to the rating of the National Bank of Ukraine, the bank was one of the ten largest banks in terms of assets and was one of the leaders in terms of funds of legal entities.
