Shentong (STO) Express

Company

Shentong (STO) Express is large Chinese shipping company.

2017: Use of robots

In April, 2017 Shentong (STO) Express showed efficiency of use of robots when sorting goods. Using the automated equipment the company twice cut down labor costs and also achieved sorting more than 200 thousand sendings a day.

STO Express bought little Little Orange robots from Hikvision company. They are created especially for work in warehouses. The employee of a warehouse takes sending from the pipeline and places it on the free robot. That independently, using the built-in scanner, reads out a barcode by which determines the address where it is necessary to deliver sending and goes together with a box to the necessary container. Process is imprinted on video below:

Little Orange robots are capable to transport loads weighing up to 8 kg, gathering at the same time speed to 3 meters per second. Despite big turnover of sendings robots cope with them, working for only 6-7 hours a day though they can function round the clock as are allocated with a possibility of automatic accumulator charging.

Affirms that one small robot is capable to cope in three hours with work which in five hours is performed by the person. Besides robots do not make the human mistakes arising, for example, because of fatigue or imprudence.

Having replaced people with robots, STO Express could reduce labor costs twice. Besides, the efficiency of the sorting center which thanks to robots began to process not less than 200 thousand sendings every day increased by 30%.

The Chinese enterprises even more often resort to the help of robots. In 2016 production of this equipment used in the industry increased almost by a third in the country. According to the plan of the Chinese government, by 2020 annual production volume of such robots will reach 100 thousand pieces.[1]
