March 2, 2022 it became known about the creation in Singapore of the Digital Technology and Intelligence Service (DIS) to combat growing cyber threats.

The digital sphere has become as real as land, air and sea, for which we created the army, air force and navy. Threats emanating from the digital domain can easily affect events in the real physical world. The division between the virtual and physical world in terms of security is false, since in fact these two concepts are closely intertwined, "said Defense Minister Ng Eng Hyun during the parliamentary debate on the ministry's budget.

Singapore has created a cyber intelligence unit

The statement of the Ministry of Defense explains that the DIS will be tasked with providing "accurate, relevant and timely early warning and operational intelligence," as well as improving command communications for the IFOR so that they can act as a "network force."

She will also be responsible for the digital protection of the SAF through cyber protection and electronic protection of our networks and systems, as well as for psychological protection to strengthen the commitment and stability of our troops during operations, "the department said.

The ministry said that the creation of the new service comes as the digital sphere has become a full-fledged arena of conflict and controversy, and the digital threats to Singapore's defense continue to grow in scale, complexity and organization.

It called DIS the "logical next step" to consolidate its digital capabilities and improve training and combat as a networked and integrated force.

According to the Ministry, DIS will also pay special attention to realizing the full potential of new digital technologies, such as cloud technologies, data science and artificial intelligence.

The status of the service, along with ground, sea and air services, will also allow DIS to expand the staff by improving skills, hiring and career prospects, the Ministry added.

The DIS unit is needed to implement Singapore's vision of a new generation of armed forces by 2040.[1]
