2025: Theft of 8 billion rubles from the bank

On March 6, 2025, it became known that law enforcement officers in the Chelyabinsk region revealed multibillion-dollar embezzlement of budget subsidies at Snezhinsky Bank. Top managers and employees of the credit institution are being searched.

According to TASS, we are talking about the theft of money allocated from the budget to support large families. In early February 2025, information appeared that the regional department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was investigating a criminal case under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud). Then a law enforcement source stated that it was about embezzlement of more than 1 billion rubles. Later, security officials in the Chelyabinsk region revealed new circumstances of money theft, and the amount of damage increased significantly. Employees of the regional departments of the RF IC and the FSB are working on solving the case. In addition, the audit is carried out by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

The main shareholder of Snezhinsky Bank is the former Deputy Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Igor Serbinov. It is known that his children live abroad for a long time. In 2011, Serbinov became a defendant in a criminal case on abuse of power of former heads of the Stankomash Federal Research and Production Center. According to investigators, due to the conclusion of fictitious transactions, the enterprise has formed unreasonable accounts payable. TASS adds that Serbinov was previously involved in the "dubious bankruptcy of a number of key industrial enterprises in the region."[1]
