2023: Two anaesthetists given 3 years in prison after child's death
The court sentenced anesthesiologists-resuscitators of the Soviet Central District Hospital in the Altai Territory. They were found guilty of providing services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of a child by negligence (paragraph "b" and "in" part 2 of article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), the press service of the regional investigation department of the TFR reported on January 9, 2023.
The investigation and the court established that on January 11, 2021, a one-year-old girl was admitted to a medical institution with thermal burns of the body of the I-II degree. Two physicians catheterized the subclavian vein to the child using larger diameter needles that did not correspond to the age group, as well as without ultrasound imaging and ECG monitoring. On the same day, the girl died. According to the results of the forensic examination, the actions of doctors who violated the procedure for medical manipulation led to the death of the child.
As a law enforcement source told Лента.ру, on January 11, 2021, a one-year-old girl from Yakutia, who came with her parents to visit relatives in the Altai Territory, accidentally knocked over a cup of hot tea. This injury did not threaten life, and the girl was taken to the hospital for an in-depth examination. There she died a few hours later - as it turned out, when installing a catheter, her lung was pierced, and, judging by the results of the autopsy, they tried to install the catheter several times - in any case, multiple punctures were found in the child's lungs, which led to death.
The TFR reported that the court, assessing the evidence collected during the investigation, found the defendants guilty of the act he was charged with and sentenced everyone to 3 years in prison with serving in a general regime correctional colony. Medical workers are prohibited from engaging in medical activities for a period of 2 years.[1]
