2012: Syncplicity purchase by EMC company

In 2012 Syncplicity was purchased by EMC. The price of the transaction was not set.

Having purchased Syncplicity, the EMC company planned close integration of Syncplicity with the products. In particular, service was going to be connected with information placed in hardware storages EMC Isilon and also to integrate with the solution Information Rights Management from a portfolio of IIG intended for access control of users to information outside a corporate repository.

2015

Rumors about Syncplicity sale

On July 7, 2015 it became known of the preparing Syncplicity sale. The EMC company decided to get rid of this cloud service because of its unprofitability.

As reported Bloomberg news agency with reference to the source familiar with a situation, EMC is going to sell Syncplicity of Skyview Capital investment company. The price of the expected transaction is not set.

According to media, EMC will sell Syncplicity because service does not make profit and advantage of the company in the data storage market

The interlocutor of the edition says that EMC does not see in Syncplicity of the importance for a company performance in the market of the equipment and the software in data storage area. Besides, Syncplicity does not make profit, despite annually doubling sales of Internet service. Does not open financial performance of activity of EMC service.

Earlier it was reported that the Box company owning of the same name cloud storage, similar to Syncplicity, incurs losses because of heavy expenses on marketing and staff increases of specialists in sales which are necessary for involvement of new users.

According to Bloomberg, in plans of EMC sale of a controlling interest in Syncplicity appears. The American corporation will save a small share in service and also there will be its "the preferable partner" and will continue to offer Syncplicity services to the clients.[1]

Skyview Capital buys Syncplicity

On July 10, 2015 it was officially announced sale of Syncplicity service of private investment company Skyview Capital. The cost of the transaction which is going to be closed until the end of July, 2015, is not reported.

EMC said that growth of Syncplicity and gain of the competition in the market of services of data storage distract corporation from core business – development and sale of disk storages of the corporate level. At this EMC promises to continue cooperation with Syncplicity and to offer this service within the affiliate program to EMC Select.

Meanwhile, in Skyview speak about plans to invest "considerable means" in Syncplicity and to continue improvement of a product. Purchase of this service will help Skyview to accelerate development of innovations and to attract more partners and resellers, note in investment company.[2]
