Synology Inc., Taiwan, Taipei, was established in April 2000 as a creative approach company in the development and production of storage systems. Network Attached Storage is the main business defining area of development and production.
Products and activities
Synology has developed and released a range of NAS systems and extends their functionality by improving and developing the software included in the DiskStation Manager OS (DSM).
So, for small businesses with limited capital, Synology offers scalable All-in-One-Sever NAS storage with centralized storage and user rights management. To manage this storage, the company developed Active Directory Server software, which provides authentication and roaming profiles of individual users with the ability to remotely install software on clients.
For large enterprises that need to use large-scale information storage with continuous monitoring of its condition, Synology offers a solution with a central management system (CMS) that uses effective tools to manage up to 200 NAS storage.
Another area of Synology development is the creation of systems for storing and reproducing video surveillance data.
In customer IT systems, high reliability and availability of stored information remains an important challenge. Typically, the solution to this problem is to back up the stored data. Synology for its NAS has developed a number of software products that provide data backup. As a rule, SMB uses Synology CloudStation Backup and Synology Active Backup, which provides backup copies of folders from client systems running OCWindows, Mac, Linux, on NAS. To back up data from the NAS server, two types of backup are offered - local to an external USB drive or to another internal storage partition, and external when data is replicated to an additional Synology NAS system or to the cloud. Use Hyper Backup to quickly create a full backup or use local snapshots.
For backup from local NAS to the external environment, Synology launched its cloud, which provided full integration into the DSM OS, health assurance, transparent conditions for using the cloud environment while its servers are located in Germany.

2010: "HASP-compatible" from Aladdin
In 2010, based on technical materials received from Aladdin, a company engaged in the development and production of HASP hardware authentication keys for commercial software, Synology carried out a set of works to implement support for these keys in its network drives. The result was the release in November 2010 of the free additional HASP Package application. This application fully solves the task of supporting HASP keys when they are installed directly in NAS Synology. Thus, it was possible to network verify the authenticity of copies of such a popular software product as 1C: Enterprise that uses hardware USB HASP keys to control the availability of appropriate licenses. Previously, one of the LAN PCs was used for this purpose, which was to be turned on during the entire use of the 1C: Enterprise system. The emergence of support for USB HASP keys at the level of the Synology network drive made access to the 1C: Enterprise software complex independent. As a result, the company received HASP-compatible status, which guarantees the operability of USB HASP keys on Synology network drives.
The solution is of course important in itself, as it opens up a number of additional possibilities for using software systems that require HASP verification and have shared network use. It should be taken into account that these are not only 1C systems: The enterprise, although they are the focal ones, but also many other products, such ERPCRM as/programs, engineering design products and even systems for. video surveillances
The possibility of territorial separation of the NAS database server 1C: Enterprise, together with the HASP key and the working group using the stored database, provides many options for additional information protection, both for the purpose of limiting access and reducing the risk of simultaneous failure of all equipment in case of fire, flooding, etc., when a PC and a server with critical data are located within the same room.
Obtaining an official HASP-compatible certificate from Aladdin, along with certificates of compatibility with leading virtualization solutions such as Citrix XenServer and VMware vSphere, is an additional argument in favor of corporate customers choosing Synology storage as the most fully supported product, world and Russian recognition, as well as being at the peak of technological development and meeting the challenges of integrated integration.
HASP Package is a free, additionally installed application designed to solve the problem of supporting USB HASP-keys to verify the authenticity of commercial software when they are installed directly into the USB port of NAS Synology.
