2021: Creation of venture fund for investments into LegalTech-projects

In mid-October 2021, Thomson Reuters announced the creation of a $100 million venture fund to finance innovative projects in the fields of work of the media company. First of all, we are talking about consulting services, as well as legal and tax support for business. In addition, investments are planned in startups engaged in development in the field of risk management, anti-fraud, compliance and the media. The new structure is called Thomson Reuters Ventures.

They promise to pay special attention to startups that use artificial intelligence and machine learning to automate business processes and serve customers. Emphasis will be placed on investing in projects in the early stages of development.

Pat Wilburn, strategy director at Thomson Reuters and chief executive of Thomson Reuters Ventures, said the company will focus on finding and supporting innovative startups that can bring as much value to Thomson Reuters customers as possible.

The fund will include investment and support specialists, as well as a managing partner, who is likely to be attracted from the large American hub Thomson Reuters. The expected portfolio of the fund is about 20-30 projects.[1]
