Partners

In the market of Russia and the CIS countries, the company has been operating since 1998, selling through partners. In Russia, there are three distributors: APL, Axoft, MONT. In 2009, speaking about the possible emergence of new partners in Russia, Trend Micro regional manager Mikhail Kozlov told CNews that such an opportunity cannot be ruled out. "We are thinking about expanding our presence in the CIS and are considering the appointment of local distributors as one of the options," he said.

2013

Trend Micro has developed a plan to break into the leaders of IB software in Russia

Trend Micro aims to be one of the top three providers of information security software in Russia in 2016, regional manager Keith Maskell said in December 2013. In 2012, Trend Micro ranked sixth in this market in Russia with a share of less than 3% with a total market volume of about $400 million, he cited IDC data .

To achieve the ambitious goal, the company developed a strategy for business development in Russia for 2014-2016, which includes five main growth vectors. The first of them is product certification for the Russian market. Keith Maskell notes that the certification strategy is the foundation of Trend Micro's local business, and significant funds are invested in its implementation. The most recent certified product he calls OfficeScan 10.6 for endpoint protection.

The second direction of the strategy is the structuring of Trend Micro's Russian representative office in vertical markets. In particular, from the 1st quarter of 2014, special managers responsible for business development in certain sectors should appear in it. The company explained to TAdviser that the financial, energy and public sectors represent the highest priority for the company.

Maskell Keith notes that the company plans to work closely with partners who have the strongest strategic position in certain vertical markets.

Trend Micro sees geographical expansion as the third growth vector in Russia.

"We, of course, understand that most of the decisions on purchases in Russia are made in Moscow, but we have to expand the sales coverage areas and combine this with after-sales support in other regions and cities of Russia. We will develop a partner network and our own organization on the way to achieving this goal, "said Trend Micro regional manager in Russia
.

The fourth direction of the strategy is the development of channel sales. Here, Trend Micro plans to focus on supporting and training its partners, implementing partner programs and a partner management system. Trend Micro plans include an increase in the number of silver, gold and bronze partners and audits to confirm the quality of partners.

Finally, the fifth vector of the strategy will be the expansion of the range of Trend Micro products presented in Russia. Among the products and services that the company plans to promote in Russia are Threat Intelligence Services, which provide protection against data breaches and other threats and operate on the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network cloud platform, which contains databases of reputation of various files, sites and email addresses.

"We aim to raise the level of interaction with customers from a discussion on the choice of an IT security product to a level of a fully integrated comprehensive IT security strategy," said Keith Maskell.

Trend Micro gets rid of its oldest distributor in Russia

The team responsible for the practice of Trend Micro products in its distributor , APL, including CEO Mikhail Kondrashin, went to work in the vendor's Russian office. Representatives of Trend Micro told about this on December 10, 2013 Mikhail Kondrashin, in particular, was appointed to the post of technical director at the local representative office of Trend Micro.

Trend Micro notes that after their company expires the distribution agreement with APL, it is no longer planned to renew it.

APL at one time became the first partner to receive the distribution status of Trend Micro in Russia. Trend Micro's vice president for the Continental Europe region, Patrick Dalvinck, says that despite this, over time, APL turned out to be the smallest of them. The great advantage that APL offered, he calls its full focus on Trend Micro products, and believes that if Trend Micro decided that it was better for it to fully say goodbye to APL, it would be a waste of very valuable resources.

"I believe that we have found a solution of interest both for our sales channel and for people who worked very hard in the Russian market, initially betting on Trend Micro," says Patrick Dalvink.

Mikhail Kondrashin told TAdviser that the APL staff was very small, and Trend Micro products occupied about 80% of the company's business. After the completion of the distribution agreement with this vendor in 2014, the activities of APL will also cease, he says.

Trend Micro expects that joining the APL team to the Russian representative office of the company will strengthen its staff against the background of the adopted development strategy for 2014-2016. Among its key areas are product certification, business development in vertical markets, geographical expansion, the development of channel sales, as well as the expansion of the product line represented in Russia.

The company also notes that they continue to cooperate with the company NIC CALS-technologies "Applied Logistics" (parent company APL) in terms of certification of their products in Russia.

In addition to APL, two more companies have Trend Micro distribution status in Russia - Mont and Axoft. Trend Micro does not yet have plans to expand the number of local distributors: the company says that at this stage it has enough in Russia and two such partners.

Organizations need to bring their information systems in line with the provisions of Federal Law No. 152-FZ "On Personal Data" by July 1, 2011.
