2023: Cancelling all flights from Istanbul and stopping ticket sales due to IT collapse

On 1 November 2023, Turkish Airlines cancelled all flights from Istanbul and halted ticket sales due to a technical glitch. The airline promised to compensate for accommodation costs, refunds and "any possible costs."

On November 1, 2023, a notice was published on the Turkish Airlines website, according to which all Turkish Airlines flights from Istanbul from 19:00 to 22:00 were canceled due to problems with the reservation system. The problems did not end there - according to the airport scoreboard, cancellations also affected a number of night flights. At the same time, other airlines had almost no cancellations, there were delays in departures for 2-3 hours. As the press service of Istanbul International Airport clarified, most of Turkish Airlines' international flights took off on time, while domestic flights were canceled.

The company said changes to ticket bookings would be made free of charge and unused tickets would be returned without any fines.

The penalty for not showing up for flights will not be imposed on passengers who have not yet taken action, although their flight time has already passed, Turkish Airlines said in a statement.[1]

2022: Company Name Change

In mid-June 2022, it became known about the renaming of Turkish Airlines. The Turkish airline will be called Turkiye Hava Yollar.
