History
2025: Hackers hacked UDV Group and may have read correspondence with customers and partners
The Yekaterinburg developer of information protection tools and solutions for the digital transformation of industrial enterprises, UDV Group, published a message in its Telegram channel in mid-September[1] on repelling an attack on its mail system. In particular, it says the following:
| On the night of September 10-11, 2025, attackers exploited the vulnerability of the mail server, which led to unauthorized access to part of the contents of 28 mailboxes. Within a few hours, we determined the tactics of action, notified the top management of the company and gathered an anti-crisis group. As a response, we completely isolated the company's resources from the Internet, changed passwords on services and accounts and launched an investigation. The mail server vulnerability was identified and fixed. |
At the same time, a few days earlier, on September 12, the company already posted a warning on its Telegram channel[2] about the detected attack, but without specifying details. Nevertheless, even then, its specialists recommended that counterparties perform the following actions:
- Change passwords for all systems and services that are associated with the company;
- Be vigilant to any suspicious letters or messages that may come on behalf of the company.
The UDV Group press service confirmed at the request of TAdviser that this message refers to the same incident. After him, the company to strengthen the team attracted specialists from Cyber Intellectual Transformation (KIT), which is part of the UDV Group holding, and Cyber-ART Innostage, which is a partner of the company.
| Within the first hours after the attack on the mail server, our team identified and fixed the vulnerability in order to minimize the damage, "Viktor Kolyuzhnyak, CEO of UDV Group, explained to TAdviser the situation. - As a result, we can argue that the part of the correspondence that the attackers had is not sensitive information for the business and is not able to harm customers or partners. Attackers, of course, will try to discredit and sow panic, so we urge you to trust only the trusted sources we talked about. |
According to Viktor Kolyuzhnyak, the attackers failed to gain a foothold in the infrastructure and gain access to any other services of the company, except for the mail server. At the same time, the KIT website was unavailable on September 16. As explained by TAdviser Viktor Kolyuzhnyak, the site was disabled for verification and additional strengthening of protection. The next day, the site was restored.
TheAccording to representatives of the UDV Group, the attackers failed to gain access to other services of the company and gain a foothold in the infrastructure. Access to information systems, development environment, and backup storage has also been prevented. The developer's specialists assess the presence of confidential information of customers and partners in the correspondence to which access was obtained. UDV Group employees expect to personally contact the participants of the relevant correspondence to discuss the necessary countermeasures.
