2025: Samsung Kaluga plant lease and smartphone production launch

Russian electronics distributor VVP Group plans to start producing smartphones at a rented Samsung plant in Kaluga. This became known in February 2025. The company is also considering providing production facilities for contract assembly of devices of other brands.

According to Kommersant, VVP Group has already begun production of TVs and washing machines, as well as servers and monitors under the Graviton brand on this site.

Samsung plant in the Kaluga region has a territory of 465 thousand square meters. m and is equipped with lines for the production of household appliances. According to SPARK-Interfax, the company is 100% owned by the South Korean company Samsung.

Director of Strategic Development of STI Group Kirill Skvortsov noted that the conversion of the plant for the assembly of finished devices will not require significant costs, but key components and boards will have to be imported.

To launch a full-fledged production of smartphones, it is necessary to create a device testing department, which must be equipped with special equipment for checking radio frequency channels. The minimum requirement is four test machines to ensure an uninterrupted production process.

LLC "Bayon," associated with VVP Group, in 2023 received certificates for the import of telephones of its own production and registered the trademark Metame. The company also opened a branch at the Kaluga factory Samsung.

The revenue of VVP Group, operating through Distribution Center LLC, in 2023 amounted to ₽43 billion with a net profit of ₽2,6 billion. The company is registered in Khimki near Moscow, but indicates the Kazakhstan office address on the official website.

Samsung, along with other South Korean brands, is considering reopening in Russia, according to South Korean agency Yonhap. If returned, the company can establish the assembly of smartphones of younger models at the Kaluga enterprise.^[1]

In January 2014, it became known that VVP Group became an exclusive partner Micromax in Russia in this area. According to Ramnik Singh Kohli the head of Micromax's representative office in Russia and the CIS, VVP Group will implement Micromax devices through all existing partners, including federal and regional networks, operators, home appliances stores, computer stores and other points of sale.
