2022: Kolomensky acquired Volzhsky Baker
In September 2022, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia granted the petition of the Kolomensky bakery and confectionery holding to acquire the Volzhsky Baker company. According to the regulator's decision, the deal will not limit competition in the bread and confectionery market.
The intention of the Moscow BKH "Kolomensky" to buy a controlling stake in the largest bakery enterprise of the Tver region "Volzhsky Baker" became known in July 2022. Then Kommersant wrote about the negotiations between the companies, citing its sources.
The reason for the sale of Volzhsky Baker, according to the president of the Russian Union of Bakers Alexei Lyalin, could be "fatigue of the owners from the need to withstand regularly changing crisis situations and balance at the level of break-even." At the same time, regional players are experiencing problems with investments in production, he said. The expert says that the purchase of a Tver manufacturer by Kolomenskiy will become the largest in the bakery industry.
According to Lyapin, by 2022 there is a tendency to consolidate the industrial bakery market in Russia as a whole. The Russian Guild of Bakers and Confectioners (KIC) notes that 95.7% of industry companies are small enterprises, large business accounts for only 1.1%.
By September 2022, Volzhsky Baker, the largest bakery enterprise in the Tver Region, occupies 48% of the local market. The Kolomensky holding operates at four production sites located in Moscow and the Moscow region. The production capacity of the enterprise is 700 tons of products per day, at the moment more than 550 tons are produced per day. The company's products under the brands Kolomenskoye, Shokoladnitsa, Master of Pies, Rye Krai, Healthy Krai, Danilovsky are delivered to 50 thousand outlets throughout Russia, as well as to other countries.[1]
