2020: Datagroup purchased Volia

At the end of December, 2020 the bargain on sale of 100% of Volia to the operator of fixed connection Datagroup was concluded. Though the financial component of the agreement is not opened, it is possible to assume that it is about the considerable amount, considering the big scale of business of both Ukrainian telecom operators.

According to her, consolidation of two companies which work at different segments of the market will help to attract additional investments for upgrade of network and expansion of fiber optic infrastructure.

Datagroup purchased Volia

The CEO and the shareholder Datagroup Mikhail Shelemba, commenting on the transaction, pointed out dissociation of the Ukrainian market of fixed connection at which about 5 thousand suppliers of such services work. Such situation prevents most the companies to invest much in technologies, he said.

The Shelemba claims that Datagroup is the leader of a B2B-segment, only 15% of its income are brought by B2C whereas Volia — the leader in B2C segment, receives less than 5% of B2B-clients.

Meanwhile, the Internet association of Ukraine (INAU) sent to Antimonopoly committee of Ukraine (AMKU) the letter in which asked to check carefully merge Datagroup and Volia regarding a potential negative impact for the market. According to experts, this transaction will lead to increase in prices for communication services.

Volia said what does not see concentration risks of the interoperator market in which the provider is a client, but not service provider.[1]
