2023: Musk hires ex-AI lab employee Igor Babushkin for X.AI
In mid-April 2023, American entrepreneur Elon Musk created X.AI, which will research and develop in the field of AI. The company is registered in Nevada.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Elon Musk, according to the documents, is the only specified director of X.A.I. Jared Birchall, who runs Musk's investment firm Excession, is listed in the role of X.A.I. secretary. Elon Musk in 2023 hired a scientist from the DeepMind AI laboratory of Alphabet Corporation Igor Babushkin and tried to invite OpenAI employees who developed a chat network from Chat, unsuccessfully GPT.
At the end of 2022, The Financial Times reported that Elon Musk plans to launch a new startup in the field of AI. Musk intends to compete with OpenAI, which became famous through the creation of ChatGPT. According to The Financial Times, Elon Musk consulted with several AI researchers, including Igor Babushkin, to explore the possibility of creating a new research laboratory aimed at creating an alternative to ChatGPT from OpenAI.
Elon Musk and Sam Altman co-founded OpenAI, the startup behind ChatGPT, in 2015. In 2018, Musk left the board of directors of OpenAI, as he planned to develop the activities of his company Tesla in the AI direction and wanted to avoid a conflict of interest. After the 2022 appearance of ChatGPT, Musk called the development of his former company both "frighteningly good" and not what they planned, and even "one of the biggest risks" to civilization.
At the end of March 2023, Elon Musk expressed concerns about the development of AI. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and more than 1,000 more experts have called for the suspension of training for more powerful AI systems than the recently unveiled GPT-4. The letter, issued by the nonprofit Institute for the Future of Life, calls for the suspension of advanced AI development until common safety protocols are established, implemented and reviewed by independent experts. The letter advised that AI could pose serious risks to humanity, so they should be developed and managed with caution. According to experts, AI laboratories have become embroiled in an uncontrolled race to develop and implement increasingly powerful "digital minds" that even their creators cannot control.[1]
