PJSC YATEK is the main gas producing enterprise of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), part of the Summa Group. YATEK is an enterprise supplying gas to the central regions of Yakutia.

History

2025: Gas Data Center Launch

The Yakut Fuel and Energy Company (YATEK) has launched a gas data center. The head Yakutia Aysen Nikolaev announced this on November 20, 2025.

According to him, a decision was agreed on the implementation of a project to create a large data center on the territory of the YATEK company in the Vilyuy district as part of the monetization of gas. According to him, the company in the coming months will begin quite serious work to further build up the project.

Aysen Nikolaev said that the project is very interesting in terms of value added. In his opinion, this is the right approach, when in place the gas is almost immediately processed, turned into energy. Through the creation of additional capacity in the data center and computing power, this gives monetization.

Local gas use eliminates the need to build expensive transport infrastructure. Gas pipelines for thousands of kilometers require huge investments. Direct gas-to-electricity conversion at the production site is cost effective for remote regions. Energy is used to power the data center servers.

In October 2025, YATEK announced the suspension of the Yakutsk LNG project. The company noted that it will focus on new areas of gas monetization related to the provision of energy to digital and high-tech industries. The initial strategy called for the production of liquefied natural gas for export.

The reorientation to data centers reflects a change in priorities. The LNG market has faced geopolitical challenges. Sanctions have restricted access to liquefaction technologies and export markets. Domestic demand for computing power is growing. The creation of a data center allows you to monetize gas without entering international markets.^[1]

2023: Establishment of the exploration "daughter"

In mid-April 2023, it became known about the creation of a new "daughter" of the Yakutsk Fuel and Energy Company (YATEK). We are talking about Maigeoprom LLC, whose main activity is geological exploration, geophysical and geochemical work in the field of subsoil study and reproduction of the mineral resource base.
