The only collection of the Historical Museum in Russia in terms of number and completeness contains, among other things, masterpieces of cartographic art presented on paper, silver, porcelain and metal. By their example, one can trace the change in styles of card decoration over five centuries, from the middle of the XVI to the middle of the XX. Many of these works of decorative and applied art, due to their age and high artistic value, never left the museum's storerooms and were not shown to the general public.

2024: Attendance growth to 1 million
The State Historical Museum (GIM) of Russia received more than 1 million guests in 2024. This was announced in January 2025 by the general director of the museum complex Alexei Levykin. According to him, more than 65 thousand visitors fell on the New Year holidays of 2024.
