iTunes is the free mediaplayer for playing and systematization of an audio-and video information of a media library. Also, using the iTunes browser it is possible to perform purchases in iTunes Store online store. iTunes is created by Apple company. iTunes belongs to the category jukeBox.
2019: Apple intends to close iTunes
On June 3, 2019 it became known that Apple intends to replace iTunes with three separate applications for consumption of a musical and TV content and also podcasts.
The decision was made because Apple to aim to position itself as provider of entertaining services, and not just equipment manufacturer. Plans concern iTunes for Mac, it corresponds to the strategy of decentralization of media content on iPad and iPhone. For lack of iTunes users will be able to manage the devices through the musical application.
With start in 2008 users gradually began to pass Spotify to consumption of musical content using streamingovy services instead of downloading compositions in iTunes. In 2015 Apple started own music service Music Apple. After that rumors that Apple intends to close iTunes till 2020 began to appear.
For May, 2019 about 75% of revenue of the musical industry in the USA are the share of streamingovy services. Spotify states that it has 217 million users worldwide, and 100 million from them pay a subscription. Music Apple has about 56 million paid subscriptions[1].
2012: iTunes 11
The Apple company submitted in November, 2012 the new completely processed version of the application of iTunes - iTunes 11, - which received the updated interface and offers the improved performance and new opportunities mainly connected with iCloud service.
Throughout all existence the iTunes media combine is exposed to criticism of users for the difficult interface, sluggishness of work and a combination of a set of diverse functions: from playing of audio before acquisition of applications for iPhone and iPad. Both users, and experts in products of Apple call it the clumsiest and bulky program of "the apple company". Work with iTunes 11 begins with the welcome screen on which Apple in brief tells about new elements of the interface.
The button serves for instant transition from iTunes library to shop and back on the right, the switch of a type of display, and at the left - the menu for switching between the music which are stored in library, movies, a TV show, podcasts, books and programs is in the middle located. This menu has a format of a drop-down menu.
In general the interface of new iTunes became less bulky and more convenient.
New degree of comfort was provided, for example, by a tab with not browsed movies in the section of movies. The Genre and Home video tabs allow to see sorting according to genres and to store house records separately from movies.
In the section of music the standard type displays large landscape graphics and if the album is unavailable locally and is in a cloud, loaded there through iTune Match service, on landscape graphics the cloud is displayed.
