Massive complaints about freezing iPad Pro

In early April 2019, it became known about the massive complaints of iPad Pro users that their tablets should not work the way.

Participants in the MacRumors and Apple support forums said that the iPad Pro does not from time to time recognize touch on the screen, freeze when scrolling and do not display characters the first time when typing.

Users of the most powerful iPads massively complain about the freezing of tablets

The owner of the iPad Pro with 1 TB of permanent and 6 GB of RAM (device price - $1750) and operating system iOS 12.1.3 said that problems with the display began a few weeks ago.

File:Aquote1.png
The screen hangs. It only started to show in the last few weeks. It looks like it's getting worse. The tablet reacts as if the screen was very dirty or my finger did not touch it completely, - wrote a person under the nickname Codeseven on the MacRumors forum.

Another owner of the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro says some buttons on the virtual keyboard don't type the appropriate letter or character. So, the "O" key must be pressed several times before the letter is displayed in the program, the user complains.

Such problems were indicated by the owners of iPad Pro of various years of release, including 2018, 2017 and 2016.

By early April 2019, it is unclear if this is a software problem or a hardware one. Rebooting, rolling back to factory settings and other standard solutions do not help. Replacing the tablet under warranty also does not always correct the situation, problems appear on the new iPad Pro.

One of the users said that in the Apple Store he was given a completely new tablet to replace the defective one, but the resulting device works even worse - in it the letters "O" and "K" have to be pressed at least five times to display in the typing field. Apple has refrained from commenting.[5]

The current iPad mini is based on the Apple A12 Bionic processor. The tablet screen retains the classic 7.9-inch diagonal and resolution of 2048x153 pixels, but has acquired True Tone technology, which is responsible for the realism of shades. In addition, the iPad mini has support for the proprietary Apple Pencil stylus of the first generation, as well as cameras of 7 megapixels in front and 8 megapixels in back. The Face ID recognition system is not provided in this computer, instead, Apple has saved the Home button under the screen along with the built-in Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

Apple iPad Air has supplemented the range of Apple tablets, but at the same time did not replace the usual iPad - the models have different price positioning, and their dimensions are also different, stressed in CNews. The recommended cost of a computer in Russia is from 43 thousand rubles. for the version with Wi-Fi and from 54 thousand rubles. for a model with an LTE modem. The amount of internal memory is identical to the iPad mini - 64 or 256 GB, there is also no intermediate version with 128 gigabyte storage.

The design, as in the case of the iPad mini, also did not change: the thickness of the screen frames has not changed compared to the previous generation of the iPad Air, there is no Face ID, and instead Touch ID will be used in the button under the display, noted in CNews.

The updated iPad Air, like the iPad mini, is built on the basis of the A12 Bionic processor with a good margin of performance. For the iPad Air, it will be possible to separately purchase a Smart Keyboard with a built-in keyboard in addition to the stylus. For the iPad mini, such an accessory has not yet been provided.

The iPad exploded in an Apple store. All were evacuated

On August 19, 2018, a spontaneous explosion of an iPad tablet occurred at the Apple Store in Amsterdam, as a result of which all staff and visitors were evacuated.

According to local TV channels AT5 and NH Nieuws, citing a representative of the fire service, the cause of the incident could be a leak in the iPad battery pack and the overheating of the device that followed.

Apple Store in Amsterdam

Store employees promptly transferred the tablet to a container of sand. However, due to poisonous fumes, three people needed medical attention. The doctors who arrived at the scene recorded their respiratory tract damage.

The Amsterdam Fire Department confirmed via its Twitter blog that three people who were in the store developed breathing problems. They are caused by chemical fumes or other harmful substances found in the iPad battery. Fortunately, there were no casualties and serious injuries.

It is not clear, the problem was associated with the original battery or with the element installed after repair. There are suggestions that overheating occurred as a result of improper handling of the iPad by a technical specialist of the Apple Genius Bar service, but this has not been officially confirmed.

The store resumed operations about an hour after the incident.

As noted by Mac Rumors, incidents with the explosion of gadgets occur quite rarely, but a small percentage of lithium-ion batteries still have a risk of overheating, bloating and fire.

A similar incident was recorded in January 2018, when, as a result of overheating of the iPhone battery and the ensuing fire, one of the employees of the Apple Store showroom in Zurich received minor burns. For a while, the entire store was evacuated.[7]

Cheapest iPad

At the end of March 2018, Apple introduced a new iPad. The tablet, which has become the cheapest in the assortment of the American manufacturer, is addressed to students and schoolchildren.

Apple's tablet, announced on March 27, features a 9.7-inch display and differs from previous versions in a more powerful A10 Fusion processor (as in the iPhone 7) and a pre-installed training software package . Thanks to the new chip, a performance increase of 40% is provided in the case of conventional calculations and 50% in terms of graphics processing compared to previous iPads.

On March 21, 2017, a new iPad was announced, which became a replacement for the iPad Air 2, released in 2014. The cost of the device in Russia will begin at 25 thousand rubles.

The tablet presented by Apple received a short name iPad (without any prefixes and numbers in the name). Compared to the iPad Air 2, the novelty has become thicker (7.5 mm versus 6.1 mm) and heavier (469 versus 450 grams). At the same time, a more productive processor appeared - Apple A9 instead of A8X.

The new iPad runs autonomously for 10 hours

The 9.7-inch display with a resolution of 2048 × 1536 pixels remained the same, but Apple claims that the screen has become brighter.

2012: FCS recognizes iPad as computer, not navigator and cancels 5% duty

The Russian Federal Customs Service actually canceled the 5% duty on the iPad in the spring of 2012, recognizing it as a computer, not a navigator.

Other tablets GPS with still need to be imported as navigators. The representative Samsung told Vedomosti that the Korean company has already sent a request to this account in. FCS

When contacting other manufacturers of tablets, the FCS will consider a request for their classification in the prescribed manner, Dmitry Kotikov, head of the press service of the FCS of Russia, told Vedomosti. He added that in March, the World Customs Organization's harmonized system committee will consider the classification of tablet computers and try to find a unified approach to it. In the meantime, according to an employee of a large retail chain, at some customs, tablets are considered monitors, the import of which is subject to a duty of 15%.

Previously, customs officers classified all tablets as computers, but in September the FCS issued an order to consider them navigators (thereby imposing a 5% duty on them). The current teletypogram of the head of the FCS Andrei Belyaninov makes an exception only for iPad tablets, and other tablets still need to be imported with a duty of 5%.

Now Apple tablets imported into Russia now have a price advantage, but it is not known how this will affect the final price of devices.

2011

Q3: More than half of tablets sold in the Russian Federation - iPad

According to the analytical company Canalys, in the third quarter of 2011, about 540,000 tablets were sold in Russia, 56% of them were iPads, 22% - Acer tablets, 7% - Samsung.

US congresman: iPad creates unemployment

Illinois Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. believes that the iPad tablet and App Store could lead to the closure of thousands of real bookstores, newsstands and libraries, Engadget reports. An increasing number of Americans are reading e-books, and this is dealing a blow to the publishing business and leading to unemployment in this industry. According to his calculations, more than a million people may be left without work. The congressman is also outraged by the fact that the iPad is produced in China, since jobs that could be occupied by Americans go to the Chinese[9].

2010

Sales of $9.57 billion or 100% in the tablet market at the end of the year

In 2010, Apple took nearly 100% of the global tablet market in monetary terms. With the development of the Android platform, it was expected that the company would have to squeeze. However, preliminary calculations say that the efforts of other market players at least in 2011 will be poorly rewarded. According to Gartner, in 2010, consumers and corporate customers worldwide spent $9.6 billion on the purchase of tablet computers. Considering that in 2010 Apple raised $9.57 billion from the sale of the iPad (according to official figures), its share in the global tablet market was almost 100% (99.7%). Other tablet manufacturers thus accounted for about $30 million or 0.3% of total revenue, BetaNews summarizes. The second result in terms of delivery volumes was shown by Samsung with its Galaxy Tab. At the end of January, the manufacturer reported on the supply of 2 million tablets from the day it went on sale 3 months ago. At the same time, the device is available in 94 countries.

For comparison, in the last 3 reporting months (from October to December 2010), Apple sold 7.33 million iPads, and in the period from April to December last year - 14.79 million devices, according to estimates, IDC taking a global market share of 83%.

In 2011, Gartner predicts an increase in the cost of buying multimedia tablets by more than 3 times to $29.4 billion. Considering that the volume of deliveries to the global market this year will amount to 50 million units, that Apple will take at least 70% of this volume and that the average selling value of the iPad is $650, it can be calculated that in 2011 the company will earn $22.75 billion in this segment. Competitors at best will get the remaining $6.65 billion.

45 patents in total are registered by Apple with the European Office of Patents and Trademarks regarding the iPad device. They appeared in the database in January 2011, but registered retroactively on July 27, 2010. All patents relate to the technologies of the on-screen keyboard, calendar, mail application and home screen IPad.

On March 11, 2011, Apple began selling a new generation of iPads. From March 25, the novelty is available to customers in 26 countries, and in April the vendor promises to expand its geography again. Russia may also be among the new markets - on the eve of official deliveries, retail chains have already reduced the cost of first-generation devices.

By the end of 2015, the share of iPad sales will decrease to 47.1%, which will continue to occupy a dominant position in the market. According to analysts, Gartner third-party vendors could catch up faster Apple if they learned from their mistakes. Despite the growing popularity of Android and the steady decline in share, iOS Apple will maintain its leadership in the global tablet market until at least the end of 2015, according to which Gartner analysts predict. According to them, in 2015, Apple iPads will occupy 47.1% of total sales of multimedia tablets to end consumers, compared to 68.7% this year and 83.9% last year.

Gartner analysts have finally voiced what many have long spun in the language. In their opinion, Apple reinvented the tablet computer, just like in 2007, with the release of the iPhone, it reinvented the smartphone. However, do not treat multimedia tablets as personal computers - these are completely different devices, they are in a hurry to add to Gartner. Tablets are primarily designed to consume content, not replace full-fledged computing systems.

According to Gartner, the share of the Android operating system in terms of sales to end consumers in the period from 2011 to 2015 will grow from 19.9% to 38.6%. At the same time, supplies will grow from 13.9 million devices in the current year to 113.5 million in 2015, that is, more than 8 times in 5 years.

Start of sales in Russia through 4 networks

In early October 2010, Apple began shipping the iPad tablet to Russian distributors, and retail chains put it on the shelves by mid-October. The start of sales is October 11, said a source close to these companies[10].

The first iPad sold four consumer electronics networks:

Apple preferred these networks because they have special departments for the sale of Apple products and accessories, work with Wi-Fi, which is necessary to demonstrate the capabilities of the iPad.

The "younger" iPad model (with 16 GB memory) cost 19,900 rubles, the "older" (64 GB) - about 37,000 rubles. In the USA, the iPad costs 15,300-25,370 rubles in terms of rubles, that is, in Russia the price is 30-46% higher than in America. The gap from Europe is less - 7-8%, while Apple's penultimate novelty is the iPhone 4, whose official sales began in Russia in September 2010, depending on the amount of memory, costs us 25-27% higher than in European countries.

"We consider Apple's decision a mistake and hope that it will be corrected soon," the president said. Euroset Alexander Malis

Svyaznoy will do everything possible to make the iPad appear on its network in the near future, Elena Nogotkova, a representative of the retailer, echoes him.

According to Murtazin's estimates, by the end of 2010 Apple will be able to sell up to 50,000 iPads in Russia, and 100 000-120 000 units in 2011. If Apple reduces the price, then sales next year will reach 200,000 iPads, which will account for 90% of the Russian tablet PC market, Murtazin said.

Presentation of the first iPad

On January 27, 2010, Apple at a press conference in San Francisco presented a product that has been rumored for the past year - a tablet computer with a 9.7-inch touchscreen. The new product was introduced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

Speaking to viewers, Jobs spoke about the evolution of computer devices and the types of interfaces - keyboard, trackball, touch screen.

"Now all of us are using laptops and smartphones. The question is - could there be anything in between? A device for surfing the web, working with e-mail, viewing photos, videos, listening to music, playing games and reading e-books. It should be better suited for these tasks than a laptop, and better than a smartphone. "
"Some might call netbooks. But they have one problem - they are no better than anything else, "Jobs said
.

These small computers have low performance, poor screens, and run standard computer software.

"We think there should be something more interesting between a smartphone and a laptop - the iPad."

An ideal device for all of the above tasks and, moreover, the world's best web surfing device, Jobs said.

The iPad interface is inherited from existing Apple products and is easy to control in the same way as the iPhone interface. The software provides direct access to the iTunes store and allows you to play videos from YouTube in HD quality. The built-in accelerometer automatically rotates the image on the screen according to the orientation of the device.

The iPad display is made using IPS technology. The screen is multi-touch capacitive, the same as that found on the iPhone. The device is based on Apple's first proprietary processor, the Apple A4, clocked at 1 GHz. The built-in flash memory for storing files is 16, 32 or 64 GB, depending on the model. There is support for Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. In addition to the accelerometer, there is a built-in electronic compass. There is a microphone and a speaker. For synchronization, a 30-pin port is used. The thickness of the tablet is half an inch (1.27 cm), weight - 680 g. Battery life is more than a month in standby mode and up to 10 hours in operation.

On the tablet, you can run all existing applications written for the iPhone. In this case, the application screen can be stretched over the entire iPad screen. This applies to both games and other applications like Facebook. OpenGLS support provides smoother graphics in games. When reading electronic newspapers, the tablet will allow you to play videos inserted into the text of the article. There is no multitasking in the tablet, as well as support for Flash. Along with the announcement of the tablet, Apple has released a new version of the SDK, which allows you to develop applications for the tablet screen.

An application for buying e-books has been developed specifically for the iPad. It displays the book cover and description. When reading text, it is possible to select a font. The cost of books varies from $7.99 to $14.99. Also, a special version of the iWork application package was developed for the tablet, supporting the touch screen. Each individual application of this package (working with texts, tables, etc.) will cost $9.99.

In addition, Wi-Fi the tablet will support 3G. AT&T will provide iPad owners with access with a limit of 250 MB per month for $14.99 and without traffic restriction for $29.99. The tablet has a socket for small-sized cards. SIM The tariff plan is activated directly on the device, there is no binding to the operator - you can refuse the service at any time. The cost of the tablet USA in will be from $499 for a model with 16 GB of memory. The cost of models with 32 and 64 GB with 3G support will be $729 and $829, respectively, without 3G support - $599 and $699. Global sales of iPad without 3G will begin in March 2010, with 3G in April.

1983-1993: Newton MessagePad - bad tablet

Apple already had a product similar to a tablet. We are talking about the Newton MessagePad. It was developed under the leadership of John Sculley, who served as chief executive officer of the company from 1983 to 1993. But the project failed - sales of the device were far from as high as Scully suggested.

In 1997, after returning to the company, the new Apple CEO Steve Jobs first curtailed tablet development. Some saw personal motives in this act: MessagePad was the brainchild of Scully, with whom Jobs had disagreements at one time. However, the main reason for the closure of the project was its commercial insolvency. Speaking about the new device, Jobs says: "It's the best thing I've ever created in my life. A new magical and revolutionary product of our company, with which we begin a new calendar year. " The development of the tablet has lasted for several recent years.
