2017: Cracking of Apple Face ID

The Vietnamese firm on cyber security of Bkav showed a method of a bypass of a system of authorization on the person of Apple Face ID, implemented in new mobile devices of the company — iPhone X. For this purpose they needed to make on the 3D-printer a mask which only parts reminds the person of the owner of the device^[4].

Bkav not for the first time checks for durability of a system of face recognition. In 2009 her employees proved inefficiency of similar means of authorization which actively extended during this period together with notebooks of ASUS, Lenovo, Toshiba and others. For a bypass of protection there was enough only color photo of the user.

In the same way using the photo it was possible to deceive the systems of recognition of the person and an iris of an eye in Samsung Galaxy S8 — different groups of researchers showed it at the beginning of 2017.

Against whom it can be used

Attempts to open Face ID were made and earlier, but in Bkav were the first who succeeded. They needed week and about $150 for making an effective blende. Experts of Bkav specify that the method shown by them if is used, then only against billionaires, state officials, heads of the corporations and other persons holding high posts.
