Release
In 2003 Apple surprised the world with release of iTunes for Windows. Apple then showed: the conflict of the companies cooled down. It seems that now it sputtered out again or, at least, was considerably cooled: for the first time Microsoft released the software package from the list of Microsoft Office for iPhone. It is OneNote, the multi-purpose application of planning, creation of notes and collection of information. Users can synchronize notebooks of OneNote by means of Windows Live SkyDrive or get access to notes online through Office Web Apps.
From Microsoft it is an adventurous step. One of the few advantages of Windows Phone 7 OS withheld over iPhone (as well as Android), is support of native Microsoft Office applications. Theoretically, Microsoft can take a position at which to the users of Office wishing to have an opportunity for work with documents of Office and data in the movement, it is better to pass to Windows Mobile Express. Nevertheless, the company "rose" so long that Apple took control over mobile space, and third-party software developers "curved" software to lead Office to iOS, including DataViz Documents for Go, Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite and Byte Office Squared.
Microsoft fell into an awkward situation, among the disappointed, reproaching and complaining users who want to obtain easily from the Windows computers data and documents on iPhone. The mentioned users will not begin to refuse the devices (at least, not for Windows Phone 7) - they have alternatives for the Windows data access. What conclusions will be drawn by Microsoft after such collapse to cope with requests of users? The company can, of course, continue to ignore threat of iPhone, but this strategy will never come true.
Perhaps, Microsoft did not hear complaints of users of iPhone about lack of native Microsoft Office applications for iOS. Third-party versions of programs can qualitatively be flush with what Redmond issued in the telephone version of Windows.
Of course, questions remain: whether other related Microsoft Office applications for iPhone after OneNote will follow? How about OneNote (or other Microsoft Office applications) on the mobile platforms other than iOS? Microsoft does not speak now, but hints that she very much wants to inform of Office the greatest possible number of users, irrespective of the device or the platform.
Takeshi Numoto, the vice president of Microsoft corporation for the Office direction, announcing OneNote for iOS, noted in the blog: "On PC or on Mac, on the mobile phone or online by means of Office Web Apps on different browsers, we still provide Office on devices, platforms and operating systems of our clients using it. It should be information, the ideas, but not the device. Isn't it?"
