ESET NOD32 Smart Security Family

On October 24, 2018 ESET provided the next generation of personal anti-virus products ESET NOD32. In solutions functions of protection of a home network and online payments are optimized and also the services simplifying interaction of the user with a product are implemented.

According to forecasts, by 2025 in the world over 75 billion devices connected to the Internet – from products for the smart home to the hi-tech medical equipment will be used. Growth of volume of confidential data and also points of entry in the Internet represents potential threat.

To ensure safety Internet of Things, ESET developers expanded possibilities of the module "Protection of a Home Network". It is intended for check of the home router and the devices connected to it regarding vulnerabilities of software and weak passwords. Now in the interface of an antivirus it is possible to browse the list of devices with indication of their operating systems and to remove unnecessary devices from a visibility range.

The module "UEFI Scanner" which protects from threats for UEFI similar to the LoJax rootkit detected by virus analysts of ESET is improved. Malware of this type attack computers before start of the Windows operating system. It is difficult to detect such threats, they can remain in a system even after reinstallation of OS or replacement of the hard drive. Now the user can start UEFI Scanner manually in the interface of a product.

In products ESET NOD32 the module "Protection of Online Payments" which already proved the efficiency is optimized. It allows to create the protected environment for online transactions, automatically determining when the user visits Internet bank or payment services.

Besides, in the provided generation of ESET NOD32 the useful opportunities simplifying use of a product are implemented.

The module "Report on Security" allows to browse statistics of cyberthreats and monthly creates the report for work of an antivirus, including number of the detected threats, the blocked web pages, spam letters, etc. Directly from this module it is possible to activate the Antivor and Parental control functions.

In comparison with the previous generation of ESET NOD32 installation time of a product is reduced by 30-40%. Interaction with technical support service thanks to creation of the expanded magazine is simplified. The possibility of fast recovery of the password – without the appeal to technical support is provided.

On September 11, 2018 ESET Russia represents service for the Russian users of ESET NOD32 – the Guarantee of Antivirus Protection program. If the user followed the recommended rules, but the device with the set ESET NOD32 suffered from the malware, ESET Russia will return the cost of the annual license.

Every day in the world over 200,000 malware appear. Any producer of antiviruses does not guarantee security for hundred percent, but ESET Russia is ready to take the responsibility for the user.

Each user who purchased or prolonged the license of any anti-virus product ESET NOD32 can enter the program. After activation the client will obtain licenses the invitation to enter the program. It is enough to follow the link from the letter in a personal account of ESET Connect and to fill out the request.

At suspicion of infection of the computer or the smartphone the user needs to contact technical support of ESET by any convenient method: in mail, messengers, social networks or by phone.

2016: Antispam function of products ESET NOD32

The Antispam function of products ESET NOD32 won in the spring of 2016 first place in comparative tests of the independent laboratories Virus Bulletin and AV-Comparatives investigating programs for security.

Specialists of Virus Bulletin tested 18 corporate products for protection of mail servers. ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server won first place by parameters of efficiency of detection of spam, speed of work and lack of false operations. It recognized 99.999% spam letters from 177,000 samples and did not allow wrong detecting of mail from the entrusted senders. The product won VBSpam+ award.

AV-Comparatives investigated function of an antispam in 12 popular antiviruses for home users. Testing was held in the Microsoft Outlook program using 127,000 samples of spam. The complete solution ESET NOD32 Smart Security showed the best result in the test, having detected 99.96% of undesirable letters. Experts estimated convenience of a product and simplicity of setup of an antispam.

2015

It is announced to an exit of ESET NOD32 of new generation

On February 26, 2015 the anti-virus company ESET provided new generation of corporate products in Russia.

By means of implementation of add-on modules, solutions provide essentially new level of protection against cyberthreats and the target attacks, having saved the minimum requirements to system resources.

In the center of the updated line of ESET – the new ESET Remote Administrator console providing management of corporate security from any device from any place in the world. The independent agent of centralized operation of tasks and security policies is applied on end devices, even in case of shutdown of communication with ESET Remote Administrator. In the console the new specialized proxy server is implemented.

The product is automatically synchronized with Active Directory and is compatible to operating systems Microsoft Windows and Linux.

Advantages

The module "Protection against Botnets" analyzes network activity of the device and helps to detect active malware. The technology defines outbound network connections and verifies the addresses of the remote websites with own black list. Suspicious connections are blocked with sending the notification to the user.

The module "Protection against Exploits" provides protection against the aimed attacks not known of threats and vulnerabilities of zero day in the software earlier. The technology helps to control behavior of processes and to designate the suspicious activity typical for the aimed attacks. At detection of malicious actions harmful process is quickly blocked.

The Vulnerability Board technology increases the level of detection of new threats, expanding possibilities of the firewall. The solution analyzes network protocols and blocks any attempts of the attacks and operation of unknown vulnerabilities for which patches are not released yet.

Expanded storage scan helps to neutralize the difficult ciphered malware installed on the computer is reserved from the user. The technology controls behavior of harmful processes and scans files right after interpretation that increases efficiency of detecting of threats.

The new module "Antifishing" will recognize and blocks phishing sites, verifying the addresses of web platforms with the database of the known harmful resources. The technology reliably protects from theft of confidential data owing to substitution of the legitimate websites counterfeit.

The corporate line of ESET is optimized for work in virtual environment. Solutions are equipped with the graphical interface, activation and a possibility of removal of third-party anti-virus products at installation is simplified.

ESET NOD32 has "sandbox" full of holes

On June 22, 2015 it became known of unreliability of isolation of ESET NOD32 emulator from main system that^[1] can lead to a compromise of the computer of the user^[1].

In several days after the publication the Intercept project of the next portion of documents of Snowden on shadowing of the NSA the anti-virus companies and the return development of an anti-virus software, the hacker Tavis Ormandy from division of Project Zero of Google company showed cracking of an antivirus of ESET NOD32.

Ormandi paid attention to work of the ESET NOD32 — "sandbox" emulator where potentially malicious code is performed. The emulator should be reliably isolated from main system, but in reality it not so, and the emulator "it is trivial it is cracked" as the hacker, so, said that the malicious code can get into a maternal system. In video demonstration for show as it is possible to send an exploit which by means of ESET NOD32 compromises all system to the computer of the victim.

Vulnerability is present at all versions of ESET NOD32 at all platforms.

2014: Possibilities of corporate products ESET NOD32

Eset NOD32 Mail Security for mail servers under control of Lotus Domino

The intelligent anti-virus solution of Eset NOD32 Mail Security for Lotus Domino created on the basis of ThreatSense technology allows to detect the malware and threats sent by e-mail and also to block undesirable and advertizing messages (spam). The updated product it is easy to configure, create in it detailed reports which automatically go to the network administrator, says Eset.

According to developers, a number of functions is added to the version of the solution Eset NOD32 Mail Security for Lotus Domino and the algorithm of the heuristic analysis which allows to detect and block more effectively all types of threats, including unknown earlier is optimized. The Grey Lists function in settings gives an opportunity to block spam and also to browse history of events in the magazine of security: the sender, the receiver, the taken measures and the status of connection.

Thanks to a component of determination of individual parameters of scanning of mail for a user group and separate mailboxes possibilities of regulation of settings of security policy are expanded. One more feature of the updated solution is automatic consolidation of two and more licenses with the same parameters that allows to build users on groups and simplifies management of an anti-virus system. Besides, in the solution the technology spam filter is optimized, possibilities of a quarantine are expanded and the web interface is updated, noted in Eset.

The beta of the product Eset Mail Security for Lotus Domino is available to testing to all users. Eset does not recommend to install betas of anti-virus solutions on the PC and systems which are carrying out crucial tasks.

A number of new features is also added to the solution ESET NOD32 Mail Security for IBM of Lotus Domino. Creation of "grey" lists allows to block spam, but at the same time to browse history of events in the magazine of security: the sender, the receiver, the taken measures and the status of connection. Setup of an automatic exception of critical files of the mail server ensures it smooth operation. One more feature of the updated solution is automatic consolidation of two and more licenses with the same client name that allows to build users on groups and simplifies management of an anti-virus system.

Certification of ESET NOD32 for Citrix XenApp is complete

On January 31, 2012 it was announced that solutions of a corporate line ESET NOD32 underwent Citrix Ready certification. Certification of Citrix Ready guarantees compatibility of anti-virus solutions of ESET NOD32 with the software of Citrix XenApp, means of virtualization and the system of delivery of the Windows OS applications to any place in the world. Besides, the status Citrix Ready confirms compliance of solutions ESET NOD32 to the quality criterions of products set by Citrix company.

2011: ESET NOD32 5 version

On September 20, 2011 ESET announced an exit and the beginning of sales in Russia and the CIS countries of fifth generation of products ESET NOD32 for home users. Solutions ESET NOD32 of new generation became even more reliable, fast and easy to control. The fifth version of an anti-virus software combines a set of the most necessary functions for providing the high level of security and at the same time has the minimum impact on system performance.

Fifth generation of anti-virus solutions of ESET NOD32 is developed based on essentially new software platform with broad support of "cloud" technologies. Solutions ESET NOD32 5 are focused on pro-active detection of malware using expanded heuristics for protection against the known and unknown threats. When developing the new version the components which are responsible for detection of unsafe web content and also low-level components which allowed to increase the speed of filtering of network packets were also improved. Besides, developers added new mechanisms of the behavioural analysis of the malware.

Thanks to artificial intelligence technology of fifth generation of ESET Live Grid, in products ESET NOD32 operational tracking of harmful processes, the analysis of operation parameters of a system and automatic transfer of potentially dangerous programs in virus laboratory ESET is implemented. At the same time the user can check reputation and risk level of each started process or the file via the interface of solutions ESET NOD32 on the principle of "cloud" technology.

The advanced intrusion prevention system (HIPS) analyzes activity of the software and all system modules and blocks potentially dangerous actions in the user's computer. Developers paid special attention to upgrade of mechanisms of counteraction to difficult malware, such as rootkits and butkita. Also HIPS allows the user to configure independently additional safety rules during the work with applications and also separate components of pro-active protection.

Malware can get into a system not only from the Internet, but also via removable mediums. The intelligent system of identification of removable mediums by name, to serial number, the size and other parameters allows to control all connected devices to the computer and to permit certain actions to the set devices. At connection of any USB carriers decisions ESET NOD32 are automatically passed scanning of maintenance of a flash card, and also files on CD - and DVD disks. At such scheme of work any virus will not get on the computer from the outside. Also the user can configure operation parameters with the removable device – reading, record or blocking.

ESET NOD32 Cybersecurity for Mac

The expanded ThreatSense technology used in this product automatically detects and deletes the malware intended both for Mac, and for Windows systems. The Mac OS operating system is well protected environment, however swindlers actively use not only technical means and software vulnerabilities, but also methods of social engineering. As a result quite often the user himself installs malware or promotes their penetration on the computer. ESET NOD32 Cybersecurity for Mac is the additional level of protection of computers and allows to be insured from similar errors.

Among key features of the solution it should be noted a possibility of scanning of any information warehouses, including Time Machine archives, removable mediums, the general directories of virtual machines. In ESET NOD32 Cybersecurity for Mac the intuitive Mac-interface is implemented and also there are expanded settings for advanced users.

ThreatSense

As of November, 2011, the main method of opposition to new threats in ESET NOD32 is the expanded heuristics (Advanced Heuristics) representing the uniform mechanism using a combination of different methods — emulation, passive heuristics, the algorithmic analysis and a signature method. The technology is developed by ESET company and ThreatSense is called. Thanks to this ESET NOD32 technology shows the high level of detecting of threats at the minimum quantity of false operations.

Compatibility of ESET NOD32 Smart Security Business Edition with VMware vSphere

On October 19, 2010 it was announced solution compatibility of ESET NOD32 Smart Security Business Edition with VMware vSphere that is confirmed by the received certificate of VMware Ready.

Virtualization is the effective tool which allows to increase return from the existing IT resources, to improve controllability and security of computers, to reduce costs on implementation and service of IT solutions. Within certification of ESET NOD32 Smart Security Business Edition passed a set of the tests which confirmed capability of anti-virus solution effectively to work in virtual environment of VMware. Application of ESET NOD32 Smart Security Business Edition at creation of virtual information infrastructure allows the customer to reduce risks of distribution of the infected files in corporate environment.

Increase in high-speed performance of products ESET NOD32

On July 15, 2010 the company announced increase in high-speed performance of products ESET NOD32 that became possible thanks to improvement of different technologies and optimization of operation algorithms of an anti-virus core. Specialists of ESET conducted an in-depth study of the used methods of the analysis of files of different formats. As a result it was succeeded to upgrade significantly the mechanism of signature check implemented in all products ESET NOD32. It is important to note that acceleration of work of an anti-virus core is reached without decrease in level of security of the PC of users.

The testing held by specialists of ESET on different Windows platforms with settings of an antivirus "by default" showed that the speed of verification of files of different formats increases on average by 29%. Executable files are checked for 50% quicker. For other types of files change of scanning speed can be even higher. In addition to acceleration of scanning of files, at workstations with the installed anti-virus products ESET time of start of the operating system was reduced and also the speed of loading of web files increased. In particular, now loading of OS at the workstation happens to the set ESET NOD32 Smart Security 53% quicker, and time of downloading of files was reduced by 46%.
