Citrix and Amazon placed XenApp in a cloud

Citrix and Amazon companies signed the agreement according to which by software of delivery of applications of XenApp it is placed in a cloud of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). The started pilot program allows the enterprises to deliver Windows applications to the users from data processing centers of Amazon.

Citrix claims that the pilot program will give an opportunity to owners of licenses for XenApp to transfer applications from own data centers to Amazon EC2 and "start the applications in completely supported environment". However the present possibility extends only to the clients of Citrix participating in the program of Amazon Windows Server License Mobility Pilot.

Besides, the pilot project does not extend to the cloud of Amazon Virtual Private Cloud ensuring safety of a corporate class for cloud resources yet.

According to in Citrix, further the company are going to include Amazon Virtual Private Cloud in the pilot program. Thus, the pilot program limited now is potentially interesting to the business considering the possibility to get rid of internal IT infrastructure, having transferred it to a cloud. With XenApp started on Amazon EC2, clients will be able to reduce considerably the number of physical servers which need to be managed.

Citrix recognizes that customers often complain of clouds as they do not correspond to "corporate level", there are also doubts concerning availability and security. However, according to quickly develop in Citrix, cloud services and have many advantages which cannot be implemented in corporate data center. Besides, wide use of automation in a cloud in general allows to reduce influence of a human factor and to minimize quantity of errors.
